Looks like Mecole Hardman Jr. has a lot to say about the New York Jets. Before becoming the three-time Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs, Hardman had a brief stint with the Jets, which unfortunately didn’t go as he hoped for.
The one-time Pro Bowled went to the Jets with high hopes to play a crucial role in Nathaniel Hackett‘s star-stacked offense led by quarterback Aaron Rodgers. But the moment Rodgers was ruled out for the remaining season, things went sideways and Hardman had to find his way back to the reigning Super Bowl champions in October.
In a recent appearance on “The Pivot” podcast on Tuesday, the wide receiver opened up about his brief time with the Jets, talking about the issues he and the whole team faced under offensive coordinator Hackett after the veteran quarterback sustained the torn Achilles injury during the season’s opening.
The former Green Gang receiver said:
You just got a new (offensive) coaching staff that came in, and there's no standard there. Everybody does what they want to do. Granted, the defense has more of a stabilized standard with the coaching staff on that side, so the defense has a standard.Mecole Harman Jr. said
He condemned their offensive line as they entirely depended upon the charisma of Rodgers, and when he went down, no one knew how to handle it or take the lead.
Mecole Hardman Jr. explained why he left the Jets in the middle of the season
Hardman signed a one-year contract with the Jets in the offseason but barely got to see the field and logged just one catch across the five games he played. He had no starts and merely a single six-yard reception, despite being an accomplished player.
The 25-year-old said he was more competent than the whole Jets’ receiving group, except Garrett Wilson. But as the team crumbled, he couldn’t wait to get out of the Jets roster. He said:
It’s the lies and the way they handled me. I didn’t like it at all. You can’t do that to a player.Mecole Hardman Jr. explained
That’s why, he went to talk to Chiefs general manager Brett Veach and quarterback Patrick Mahomes, to rejoin the Chiefs. They of course agreed.
