Melvin Gordon goes the O.J. Simpson route as the Broncos RB bid farewell to his old team
Melvin Gordon
Melvin Gordon was recently waived off by the Denver Broncos after playing for them for 3 seasons. The RB joined the team in 2020 as a free agent and was let go after his costly outing against the Raiders.
Gordon played 41 games with the Broncos and posted 2,222 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. The RB also fumbled the ball a lot. Statistically, he fumbled the ball 12 times, including the 5 times in 10 games this season.
The Broncos RB was finally let go after such disappointing performances this season. However, the 29-year-old decided to go out with a bang. Gordon posted a story on his Instagram with the photo-shopped picture of him driving a Ford Bronco. And yes, it was the same car that was driven by O. J. Simpson in his infamous car chase.
The caption on the picture was also amusing as the RB stated, “Hahaha boy y’all fans was hell lmfaoo. Thank y’all to Broncos County. Let’s atleast laugh on the way out” on his Instagram story.
The departure of Gordon from the squad inspired mixed reactions as many celebrated his departure, and some were worried about the lack of players in the position.
Gordon started games after Javante Williams went down with an injury, and with the 29-year-old now waived off, the Broncos don’t have strong alternatives for the RB position.
Can the Broncos turn their season around after Melvin Gordon’s departure?
Melvin Gordon wasn’t the only problem in the squad as they can’t get rid of their biggest problem at the moment who is probably their star-signing Russell Wilson.
Wilson was traded to the Broncos to change their fortunes, but so far he has managed to pull them down even further. The Broncos currently have an abysmal 3-7 record in the NFL. The QB was exceptional in his previous team, the Seahawks, but has failed to replicate the same form in Denver.
Wilson has also had a hard time coordinating with the new HC Nathaniel Hackett, as can be seen from their plays in the game. The Broncos will need to win all their remaining games to get a decent record on the table as they are currently in the bottom 5 teams of the NFL.
With Melvin Gordon gone, the Broncos need to soon find a replacement as they face the Panthers in their next game of the season.
