Dolphins owner Stephen Ross based for his comment on tanking the economy and forcing a recession on purpose for self-serving reasons

To date the Miami Dolphins were only being accused of attempting to lose games and tank on purpose, now owner Stephen Ross hopes that the economy will also end up tanking. Following the outbreak of the virus and the emergence of work from home culture, employees have virtually forgotten how it was to show up to the office on a regular basis. Especially when they now know that they do not really need to be physically present there to get work done. Employers are also happy because they know that they can save money that they spend leasing office spaces.

Some employers want to regain that authoritative edge over their employees by making it mandatory to show up to the offices but clearly, they are of old-school thought as we can see in the case of the Dolphins owner Stephen Ross. He stated that he hopes the nation ends up in an economic recession as he feels that it will lead to employees ending up returning to offices due to the fear of losing their job.

“Employees will recognize as we go into a recession that you have to what it takes to keep your job”: Stephen Ross is hoping for the economy to get worse

Ross, in an interview with Bloomberg, stated that he sees a ray of hope in an economic recession. “Employers have been somewhat hesitant because they didn’t want to lose their employees, but I think as you go into a recession and people fear that they might not have a job, that will bring people back to the office. The employees will recognize as we go into a recession, or as things get a little tighter, that you have to do what it takes to keep your job and earn a living,” Ross stated.

Keep in mind that Ross himself lives and works from New York though his team is based in Miami. Due to Ross not being physically present there, the team has had multiple challenges in terms of management. So it is pretty ironic that a man who operates from home is vouching to bring back the office culture. Considering that his business interests lie in real estate, it may not be as surprising as due to the reduced need to lease office spaces, real estate prices are falling.

The pandemic has led to more power being transferred in the hands of employees as they have flexibility in terms of working hours, this may not be something that makes employers happy as they lose their authority to an extent.

The textbook example of going with the flow.

The hassles of traveling and being stuck in traffic has gone away which is nothing short of a boon.

Apparently, we cannot serve them from home.
