Michael Irvin believes Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs made a huge mistake by trading star WR Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins
Irvin hinted that Hill's output hasn't dropped despite moving away from the Chiefs while they are struggling without a star attacker upfront even though they won the Super Bowl last season.

After spending six eventful years with the Kansas City Chiefs—winning a Super Bowl—Tyreek Hill was traded away last season to the Miami Dolphins. Since then, 20 months have passed, and still, football fans are scratching their heads as to which team got the better deal.
In the meantime, the Chiefs added another Super Bowl to their collection in 2022. So the majority of the population agrees that Andy Reid got the better deal by moving Hill on. However, Michael Irvin’s views are different. His argument is based on the more recent forms of the two teams.
Michael Irvin went on a rant in the latest segment of FOX Sports 1’s Undisputed.
Shut up and let me tell you the reality. Everybody says, 'Well, if they won the Super Bowl, then obviously they won the trade'. I just don't buy any of that. You see, the struggles that they're having right now? They won the Super Bowl because they got a Superman back there at quarterback.
By “Superman” the retired NFL receiver is implying Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The 28-year-old shattered all of his previous records by throwing for 5250 yards on an average of 308 yards and 40 touchdowns en route to his second ring without Hill on the team.
Mahomes has managed to keep his form more or less the same but has struggled at times without a genuine target man upfront. His leading receiver in 2023 is Rashee Rice, with 361 yards. That’s excluding tight end Travis Kelce‘s 583 yards and four touchdowns. Irvin continued:
It looks like he's starting to hurt his back a little bit because they're dropping a lot of passes. Because you keep asking too much of him. Don't tell me how you are a better team without Tyreek Hill when he is on his way to 2000 yards.
Hill currently leads the league with 1,014 yards and eight touchdowns on just 61 receptions. At this rate, his dream of crossing the 2000-yard threshold will come true if he manages to stay injury-free.
Why did Tyreek Hill leave the Kansas City Chiefs?
It came as a surprise to many when owner Clark Hunt announced that they would be parting ways with Tyreek Hill. On March 20, 2022, the WR signed with the Dolphins in exchange for a 2022 first-round pick. They selected Georgia prospect George Pickens but traded him to the Steelers.
But why did Hill leave when he had been to two Super Bowls with the team? The answer is simple. He did not get the desired contract. According to reports, he wanted similar money to what the Raiders were paying Davante Adams.
I think the Chiefs initially wanted to challenge us and see what we could get from other teams contractually.
Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, revealed later.
The Dolphins matched his demands with a four-year, $120,000,000 contract as per Spotrac that included a $25,500,000 signing bonus and $72,200,000 guaranteed. What’s more, he was out of paying more than 5% of Wisconsin taxes.
