The Dallas Cowboys secured the NFC East title and a home-field advantage this season. It seemed like no one could take away their first playoff win. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. They basically handed over the win to the Green Bay Packers at 48-32 in the wild-card round on Sunday. Cowboys legend Michael Irvin also expressed his disappointment.
In the home games, the Cowboys had an 8-0 record this season. However, they couldn’t score a victory this time at AT&T stadium. And that truly crushed Michael Irvin, who put all his faith in the Cowboys to break their 28 playoff drought this season.
The legendary wide receiver went on his X (formerly Twitter) and unleashed an explosive rant against the Cowboys following their humiliating loss. This is what he said:
Every damn where, all across this country, all across the league they stood up to defend their city and defend their team. Except in the city that deserved it the most. Except the team that’s most recognizable and deserved it the most.Michael Irvin via X
He praised the former Cowboys roster before he joined the team about how they made the Cowboys an “America’s Team” and brought home a championship. He continued:
Put my damn championship on the table! That’s all we asked! Put your damn championship on the table and you couldn’t do it! All their a**es gotta go!
When Irvin joined the franchise, he matched their legacy and made the Dallas Cowboys more successful. But the current Cowboys team failed to do that once again, as the former Cowboys player vented.
Mike McCarthy on the hot seat as the Dallas Cowboys owner seeks Bill Belichick
The legendary NFL wideout was not the only one disappointed in his former team. The Dallas Cowboys’ owner, Jerry Jones, was seen frustrated after Dallas got eliminated from the playoffs. He addressed this loss as one of the biggest surprises he ever witnessed.
With this loss, head coach Mike McCarthy‘s position remains uncertain amidst existing rumors about his potential departure. Jones previously indicated uncertainty about McCarthy’s future as he asserted he would evaluate his coach’s future based on game-to-game.
If the franchise decided to go forward with firing McCarthy, they sure would have several options available. As per the NFL rumors, the Dallas Cowboys owner might have made a move in pursuing the newly available legendary coach Bill Belichick for his team.
