The former wide receiver of the Dallas Cowboys and the present-day sports commentator Michael Irvin has some views on the recent dynamic trade. He believes that the Cowboys’ owner and general manager, Jerry Jones, did nothing wrong in trading Trey Lance without consulting the team’s star QB Dak Prescott, and the head coach Mike McCarthy. The former athlete also said that being the GM of the team, he understands what is best for his team, and he acted accordingly to ensure that.
“I have no problem with Jerry not consulting Dak or McCarthy. You make that Trey Lance deal because you know in the future this can help the football team,” Irvin said on the sets of the popular TV program show, ‘Undisputed.’
In a shocking turn of events, the Cowboys’ Jerry Jones traded Trey Lance from the San Francisco 49ers to his team. Later, the 80-year-old billionaire said that no one was aware of the move. He did not consult with either the head coach nor the star quarterback.
Trey Lance was inducted into the San Francisco 49ers two years ago. He was more than a $100 million signing and considered a potential hit. However, things went differently. Major injuries created a huge roadblock to his growth in the team. Moreover, the rise of Brock Purdy in the team made his journey difficult. From the first-choice quarterback, he was demoted to the third backup option ahead of the new NFL season, which hinted at the end of his career at the 49ers.
Seeing the availability of the player, Jones made a tricky move and included him in the team as a backup quarterback.
What will happen to Dak Prescott?

The inclusion of Trey Lance into the squad has raised a pertinent question about the future of Dak Prescott in the Cowboys camp. It is being discussed that the inclusion will have a major impact on Prescott’s contract.
However, Jones, while signing Lance made it clear that Prescott would start as their first-choice quarterback. Lance will be a developing quarterback under Prescott’s guidance. According to Jones, the Cowboys have been looking for a developmental quarterback for years and finally, they have been successful in trading someone.
Prescott also did not seem very tense with the sudden inclusion of Lance. When he was asked whether the move surprised him, he said that he had been playing in the league for more than eight years, and nothing surprises him anymore. He was also asked whether the move would have an impact on his contract, and he replied that he would discuss things inside the office where business deals are done.
The Dallas Cowboys will begin the 2023 NFL season on 10 September against the New York Giants.
