Los Angeles Raiders fans were elated when the team signed veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to the roster. Unfortunately, reports suggested that that might not be the case. Jimmy G failed his initial physical due to a toe injury and might not be a starter for the 2023 season.

Garoppolo signed a three-year $72.75 million contract but wasn’t given a signing bonus. His base salary for 2023 is $22.5 million which fans believed wouldn’t be credited because of his health issues. However, former NFL general manager, Michael Lombardi said on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ that there is absolutely nothing to worry about Jimmy G becoming the Raiders’ starter.

He said, “They knew he would be ready for training camp, but he wasn’t going to be in the offseason program. This was decided back in April and so, therefore, they deferred the signing bonus until he can pass the physical, which he will and I think he’s on track to do that.”

Lombardi continued,“I think he’s been instrumental in their team in the offseason in terms of building the camaraderie, Jimmy G has a unique ability to get people to follow him, he is really well-liked, and that his teammates like him, you could see it in San Francisco.”

Can Jimmy Garoppolo manage to dominate in the AFC?

Jimmy Garoppolo has been a stalwart quarterback in his career. He did take the San Francisco 49ers to Super Bowl LIV but lost the game to the mighty Kansas City Chiefs. Still, some fans believe that it was head coach Kyle Shanahan who made him look good.

Injuries have followed the 31-year-old quarterback throughout his career. Last year, he took over as the starting QB after Trey Lance had a season-ending injury but the same fate struck him during the Week 13 game when he went down with an injury to his foot.

Jimmy Garoppolo is in the toughest division in the entire league — AFC West. This division house the best quarterbacks in the league with Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, and Russell Wilson. It will be a herculean task for Jimmy G to dominate in this division and lead the Raiders to the playoffs.

It’ll be interesting to see if the Raiders made the right choice in moving on from Derek Carr or did they just swap in another guy to get the same results as before.
