The San Francisco 49ers’ QB Brock Purdy has established himself in the MVP conversations against all the odds this season. He came into the 2023 campaign on the back of an outstanding rookie season, where he took the Niners to the NFC Championship game. Due to his incredible performances last season, Purdy was named the Niners’ starter this season.
However, some former players are still not convinced by Purdy’s inclusion in the MVP conversations. Former NFL MVP with the Carolina Panthers, Cam Newton, implied that Purdy and alike are nothing more than a game changer. Michael Vick, the former Philadelphia Eagles’ QB, however, has expressed his disagreement with Newton over his game manager take on Purdy.
I think Brock Purdy maneuvers and makes some plays on the run--Pull it down, 3rd and 6, 3rd and 7, and make a play. That's not managing. That's changing. A lot of things he does is on time, setting up in the pocket, coming down off play action. One, two, three, you know, ball coming out.Vick said on Robert Griffin III’s RG3 and The Ones podcast.
Purdy has been phenomenal this season. He has racked up 3,795 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions at a completion percentage of 69.8. He has a rating of 119.0, which is the best in the league among starters. He and the Niners will look to build on their six-game win streak this Monday against the Baltimore Ravens.
John Harbaugh talks about Brock Purdy ahead of the Ravens’ game against the Niners
The Baltimore Ravens will take on the San Francisco 49ers on Monday. It is a game between two MVP favorites in Ravens’ Lamar Jackson and the Niners’ Brock Purdy. The Niners’ second-year QB has been great this season and the Ravens know the threat he possesses ahead of their matchup on Christmas day.
I see a very good quarterback who's playing at a very high level, leading a very high-level offense to great success.Ravens’ HC John Harbaugh said about Purdy.
Harbaugh further continued:
He's playing winning football and operates in his style. He sees things, gets a ball out quick, makes every throw, he throws a beautiful ball, moves around the pocket, scrambles, throws on a run when he needs to, and operates the system really well.
Both these teams will enter the game with a record of 11-3. The winner of this game will claim the top spot in the NFL standings for this season. The Niners are on a six-game win streak, whereas the Ravens have won four straight. It will be a fun game between two of the best teams in the league.
