Mike Evans of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. He is currently aiming to reach the 1000 yards-receiving milestone for the 10th consecutive season. Evans does not have a season under 1,000 receiving yards in his NFL career yet. He is entering his final year of his contract at Tampa Bay and is hoping to receive an extension.
The deadline for that to happen is September 9, a day before the start of the NFL season for the Bucs, according to his agent. Evans’ agent released a lengthy statement to NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo. The statement makes it clear that Evans and his team expect to get his contract extension done before the start of the season.
The statement read “Despite our efforts over the past two years, and the professionalism of Bucs General Manager, Jason Licht, and Assistant General Manager, Mike Greenberg, we have not received an offer to stay in Tampa, This is disappointing to Mike as he sees other teams step up to keep key pieces and players that are important to their organizations. Many players with his status would have held out of camp to not risk injury, but Mike has continued practising hard, as always, because he puts his team first.”
There is a strong possibility that the Buccaneers get this deal done before the start of the season, but if they fail to do so, a lot of other teams will be interested to get Evans on their team. He is still very much in his prime and will hope to continue his elite production, either in Tampa or someplace else. The Bucs open their campaign against the Minnesota Vikings on September 10.
Can the duo of Mike Evans and Baker Mayfield lead the Bucs to the playoffs?

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost their Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady to retirement earlier this season. So they got Baker Mayfield as his replacement. That’s a serious downgrade. Brady and WR1 Mike Evans formed an instant connection that led them to a Super Bowl victory in 2020. Now that Brady is gone, Evans will have to form a similar connection with Mayfield.
Evans is himself caught in a contract situation with the Buccaneers and there is a possibility that he might get traded before the start of the season. However, if he doesn’t, then he will have to make sure that he and Mayfield are on the same page come week 1. Evans has a good receiving core around him but he is Tampa’s main guy and for them to do well this season, he has to produce another 1000-yard receiving season, with Baker Mayfield.
The Bucs open their season against the Minnesota Vikings in week 1. Evans will hope to get his contract extended as soon as possible. He already has nine consecutive seasons of at least 1000 yards receiving and will hope to have another big season this year.
