There’s no shortage of great wide receivers in the NFL, but Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans has no problem declaring himself the best of the best. Even the greatest of critics will attest that the 29-year-old is at least in the top 5.

It has been close to two weeks since the preseason training camps began, and Evans is ready to rumble. The four-time Pro Bowler is looking forward to the next season as he wants to erase the underrated tag from his name.

“I know where I’m at,” Mike Evans revealed in a recent interview after the Buccaneers‘ practice. “I watch all of these guys, and there are a lot of f**king great players. There are only five to 10 guys [in history] who have done what I’ve done.”

Evans has been one of the better players for the Bucs in their ever-changing quarterback system. Since he began his football career in 2014, he has played with the likes of Ryan Fitzpatrick, Josh McCown, Jameis Winston, and Tom Brady. Such illustrious names, but all different from each other. Adapting quickly to newer playing styles and still managing to put up elite numbers is incredible.

There were eight players with at least 1,300 receiving yards last season, the most since 2018. Players such as Davante Adams, Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase, and Tyreek Hill are nightmares to opposition defensive coordinators.

Evans undoubtedly falls into that group of stars as he looks to write his name in the NFL history books with 10 consecutive seasons with 1,000 receiving yards. There are only former Broncos and 49ers great Jerry Rice in front of him, with 11 seasons of putting up an average of 1,404 yards and 14 touchdowns.

The 2023 NFL season is just around the corner, with preseason games on the horizon. It’s a chance for coaches to analyze their players better and decide who will be the chosen few that will start most of the games. Although The Buccaneers’ seven players feature in the top 15 players for their respective positions, ESPN’s post-draft power rankings placed them in the 30th spot.

A few analysts even pointed out that Todd Bowles is trying to overhaul his team and start afresh, but WR Mike Evans dismissed the statement. “Rebuilding? We are trying to win right now,” he claimed according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. “Win the division, [and] people can take care of themselves.”

He does have a point, as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were Super Bowl winners as recently as 2020. But they had Tom Brady as their signal-caller. Now they are having a hard time choosing between Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask.
