Looks like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have listened to Baker Mayfield and decided to renew the contract with wide receiver Mike Evans after a remarkable season till the divisional round of the playoffs. By doing so, they have secured another solid offense for the upcoming season– shielding the star WR away from the free agency market.
As NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo reported, the Bucs have offered a two-year contract extension to Evans, satisfactory to his demands, worth $52 million, including $35 million guaranteed.

The five-time Pro Bowl receiver was set to enter the free agency market next week, where it wouldn’t have taken too long for him to be pursued by the highest bidder, especially considering his stellar record last season. But as the franchise stood up to his expectations, GM Jason Licht has been successful in an attempt to re-sign him to the NFC South champions’ roster, hopefully for two more dominating seasons.
Evans’ agent Deryk Gilmore told ESPN that this contract extension is the largest for a wide receiver of Evans’ age on their third contract deal. In addition to strengthening their offensive power for the 2024 season with Evans’ contract extension, the Buccaneers have also heightened their odds of re-signing the star quarterback Mayfield.
And as Mayfield had previously expressed his condition to play with the standout receiver if he stays with the Bucs, then the franchise has indeed killed two birds with one stone.
Fan reaction to Mike Evans’ massive contract extension
Ever since he was drafted by Tampa Bay in 2014, Evans has proved himself worthy in all aspects. He has logged around ten 1,000-plus-yard receiving seasons, generating a total of 11,680 receiving yards and 94 touchdown catches.

With the star receiver assured another two seasons with the Bucs, fans couldn’t be happier. However, some have questioned the large number offered by the Bucs when they still have to cook up a satisfactory deal with QB Mayfield.
One fan wrote, “That’s a ton of money for a WR tho,” while another wrote, “So much for “testing the waters.” Some fans praised him by calling him smart for securing a $26 million salary and a Super Bowl ring.
Nonetheless, most Bucs fans were happy about the extension of the talented wideout, even if it came at a high price. Apart from his production on the field, Evans is a also big face for the organization and could help them sell more season tickets.
