It’s not a secret that the Josh Allen–Stefon Diggs relationship has seen better days. Over the last couple of years, it began to deteriorate to such an extent that both Allen and head coach Sean McDermott had to damage control in front of the media.
Chris Simms and Mike Florio were discussing the matter after the Buffalo Bills traded Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans. During the recent segment of PFT Live, the hosts got into a heated argument as to what caused the eventual rift and parting of the two players. While Florio spoke in favor of Allen, Simms batted for Diggs.

We have seen Josh Allen talk about it. Josh Allen always has his [Diggs] back. There's never been a hint, effort, frustration, or attempt by Josh Allen to take over that relationship. That relationship was dominated by Stefon Diggs. As long as Diggs got what he wanted, everything was fine, and Josh Allen never pushed back the disrespect that we saw from time to time.Mike Florio Opined
Simms was visually disappointed with his colleague’s hypothesis. He interjected, claiming that no player who is also a leader in the locker room would call anyone out in the media.
We have never heard anybody say that type of stuff. Who goes into the press conference and sells [inaudible]?Chris Simms said
As an example, Florio threw in Davante Adams‘ departure from the Green Bay Packers. He pointed out that Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has a habit of calling people out. Simms refused to agree and countered that Rodgers’ preferred method of trolling someone is cryptic; he never says anything in their face.
Josh Allen wasn’t aware of the Bills trading Stefon Diggs
The lack of communication appears to be the main reason for the Bills to move on from Diggs, even though they have to digest $32 million in dead cap money. Simms later wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that the Bills were done with the four-time Pro Bowler.

However, they did not inform Josh Allen that Diggs was on the verge of leaving the team.
Bills GM Brandon Beane says Josh Allen probably woke up on the West Coast to news of the trade. 'I did alert him that there had been some inquiries and that it wasn't 100 percent off the table.'the Bills general manager, Brandon Beane, revealed, per Andrew Siciliano
ESPN reported that the Texans wiped out the final three years of Diggs’ contract. It means he can once again become a free agent next year if he wishes to. They also took the $3.5 million guaranteed to Diggs next season, adding to this season. As a result, it ensured $22.52 million in guaranteed money in 2024.
