Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers have started the season with a bang. They are 3-0 to begin their 2023 NFL campaign and have been soundly beating their opponents so far. Purdy was declared the team’s starting QB for this season and he has been playing tremendously well for the Niners so far.

Purdy was the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, making him the ‘Mr. Irrelevant.’ He was expected to sit behind Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance for the 2022 season, but due to injuries to both QBs, Purdy was put into the QB position midseason and he hasn’t looked back since. However, sports analyst Mike Florio came out with a very weird take on Purdy being the Niners’ franchise QB.

“I think, when you think of a franchise quarterback, you think of Joe Montana, Dan Marino, right?” Florio said on his Friday morning show. “Brock Purdy is just kind of a weird name. It doesn’t sound like a franchise quarterback name. ‘Purdy’ is a little too close to ‘Turdy.’ I just think people have a hard time looking at that name and saying, ‘That’s a franchise quarterback.'” Florio had Peter King as his guest on the show. King Jumped in saying, “That easily is the most ridiculous point you’ve ever made, That’s absurd.”

He has a passer rating of 106.3 through three weeks. The Niners will play their next game against the Arizona Cardinals on October 1.

“It definitely wasn’t his best game, but I think Brock played well, definitely wasn’t perfect, missed a couple throws, but he also made a couple plays that I didn’t think were there,” Shanahan said after the game. “So I was definitely happy with him.”

Purdy finished the game with 310 passing yards, his career best regular-season mark. He completed 25 of his 37 pass attempts and had two touchdowns with a passer rating of 111.3. He wasn’t comfortable early on but got the job done. The Niners will play the Arizona Cardinals next Sunday.
