Mike Greenberg BOLDLY claims the Patrick Mahomes-Tom Brady comparison will soon become as big as the LeBron James-Michael Jordan debate
Mahomes still has 15 years in his hands to catch up to Tom Brady.

Ask around the world who is the GOAT of football? There will be one answer: Tom Brady. But he wasn’t always the greatest of all time; even before him, legends such as Joe Montana, Peyton Manning, Bart Starr, and Troy Aikman were in the mix for being crowned the best of the best. But Brady managed to outdo all of them. Keeping that in mind, if a current or future player manages to equal or better the seven Super Bowls he won, they too will be considered in the argument. For now, that man is the current championship MVP, Patrick Mahomes.
The Kansas City Chiefs signal caller is undoubtedly one of the best in the business. The 27-year-old already has two Super Bowl rings in his locker and is hungry for more. Tasting success at an early stage of his career has only heightened the possibilities of him going for more silverware, similar to Brady. The 6-foot-4 California born lifted his first championship trophy when he was just 24 for the New England Patriots.
Naturally, fans and analysts alike would want to compare the two. That’s what happened when ESPN’s Get Up host Mike Greenberg put forward the debate. He even mentioned how this rivalry is similar to that of the NBA’s LeBron James and Michael Jordan.
“Tom Brady just retired, and looking at Mahomes’ numbers from his five years as a starter, how consistent he has been, how much winning they have done in Super Bowl appearances and everything else. I actually think Mahomes and Brady are on the verge of becoming our next LeBron and Michael conversation,” Greenberg said.
However, his guest contributor, Jeff Darlington, wasn’t thrilled with yet another never-ending debate between the two players. But the senior analyst did pick the Chiefs as his favorite to win in 2023.

Can Patrick Mahomes catch up to Tom Brady?
Patrick Mahomes might be one of the most physically gifted individuals to ever be a quarterback in the NFL. His consistency on the ball and accuracy of the pass make him stand out from the competition. But to surpass Tom Brady, that’s another matter altogether.
The 45-year-old’s postseason wins (35) alone are a mammoth total that Mahomes has to somehow get close to. But to his credit, the five-time Pro Bowler already has 11 wins in six seasons. It’s a testament to his work ethic and dedication to the game. Even former players such as Damien Woody believe that Mahomes can get to the level of Brady with the help of coach Andy Reid.
Moreover, longevity will play a key role in achieving that goal. Brady played for 22 seasons in the NFL. During his earlier days, the pitch wasn’t great, and the medical sciences were not as well-developed as now. While Brady loves to keep in shape, hence his own health book, injuries did bug him from time to time. Mahomes has had injury problems of his own, but he looks pristine.
As the quarterbacks received more protection after the rule change by the NFL committee, there’s less chance for Mahomes to get tackled more often, unlike Brady’s era. If he can keep himself fit and play very deep in his career with consistent performances, he will have a great chance of becoming the GOAT. But for now, that title remains with Tom Brady.
