Football can be a cruel sport. The risk of players getting injured is very high. Just earlier this year, Damar Hamlin of the Buffalo Bills suffered a cardiac attack on the field which led to the game getting called off. A similar incident occurred during last night’s preseason game between the Miami Dolphins and the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Dolphins’ wide receiver Daewood Davis was left unconscious after a hit from Jaguars’ linebacker Dequan Jackson.

The game was canceled after Davis’ injury and an emotional Mike McDaniel, head coach of the Dolphins, spoke to the reporters afterward. McDaniel explained the reasoning behind the cancellation of the game and choked up while talking about Davis.

An emotional McDaniel said, “He’s a great spirit, first and foremost. He’s magnetic, he’s got a cool personality to him and guys really saw that from then on. He’s a popular guy amongst our team because of how he works. I had such a pleasure in his development process and was excited for a couple opportunities he was going to get.” He wished for Davis’ speedy recovery.

The injury occurred with eight minutes left in the game and with Jaguars leading 31-18. It is just a preseason game and the right call was to cancel the game. Davis went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft before getting an opportunity to play for the Miami Dolphins. They open their season against the Los Angeles Chargers on September 10.

The Miami Dolphins’ wide receiver Daewood Davis suffered a horrific injury in last night’s preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was hit by Jaguars’ linebacker, Dequan Jackson, which knocked him unconscious. The game was rightfully canceled as Davis was carted off from the field. Since then, the Dolphins’ head coach and players have supported Davis.

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa said, “It’s tough for everyone in there to witness something like that and come in and talk about how the game went. It’s just too tough. Like I said, the kind of person that Daewood is, he’s very well respected in the locker room.” Wide receiver Tyreek Hill echoed those sentiments saying, “I can say this about Daewood; each and every day he has the same attitude, same mindset, and that’s to get better and that’s to help this team win games.”

The injury occurred in the fourth quarter, and the Jaguars already had the game won by that point. McDaniel and Jaguars’ head coach Doug Pederson took the right call of canceling the remainder of the game. The Dolphins will now play against the Los Angeles Chargers and the Jaguars will go against the Indianapolis Colts to open the season.
