The Miami Dolphins started their season on a high note by going 6-3. The team was dominant offensively as Tyreek Hill and Tua Tagovailoa clicked from the first game.
However, in recent weeks, the team has lost the last three of their five games. Moreover, they have managed to beat just one team above .500 this season. For comparison, the 4-13 Patriots have beaten two teams above .500.
One issue that has been overshadowed by the Dolphins’ other struggles this season is the amount of drops by Tyreek Hill.
The wide receiver has 11 drops this season making him one of only three players to have double-digit drops in the NFL this season. But to Mike McDaniel, this is not an issue at all.
In his press conference on Monday, McDaniel brushed aside any concerns about Hill’s drops.
I think when you are a player of his caliber that our team depends on so much, that can be a little misleading in terms of he gets a ton of targets and when we go to him in high-stake situations, it's not like he's just gliding in the open field.McDaniel further stated
Tyreek Hill has established himself to be the best wide receiver in the NFL this season
Tyreek Hill has managed to be the best wideout in the league this season despite being double-teamed for the most part.
That is impressive because it puts on display how elite he is. McDaniel is attributing Hill’s issue with drops to the fact that the volume of passes that he gets is significantly higher than any other wideout.
He's proven time and time again why we go to him...there are zero people including myself that are concerned with a pattern of whatever. He has a high expectation to literally make every play. And in that process, there is no such thing as a 100 percent shooter.McDaniel further stated
Tyreek Hill has nearly 1,799 receiving yards this season and 13 touchdowns. He fell short of his goal to hit 2,000 yards receiving making him the only wideout in NFL history to do so.
He’s been elite since his rookie year, making the Pro Bowl every year since his rookie season. The Miami Dolphins have relied on him throughout the season and he has come up clutch on multiple occasions.
The team has a rough road ahead as they will have to beat the Kansas City Chiefs, Hill’s former team in the divisional round to stay in contention for the Super Bowl. It would be the best way for the team to exact revenge on the Chiefs for beating them in Week 9.
