The Miami Dolphins led by their star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa took on the Denver Broncos in their week 3 matchup on Sunday night. Mike McDaniel and the Dolphins had a massive night as they trashed the Broncos and scored 70 points against them. The Dolphins had a chance to break the single-game NFL scoring record, but head coach Mike McDaniel decided to take a knee instead.

During the final few seconds of the game, the Dolphins were winning 70-20 and had a chance to score a field goal to break the single-season scoring record. Instead, Mike McDaniel made a surprising call to take a knee instead of kicking the field goal. His decision shocked many people and now the second-year head coach has clarified his decision to not chase the record.

“It felt like chasing points and chasing a record — that’s not what we came to the game to do,” McDaniel said during the post-game press conference. “That doesn’t have a bearing on the overall season outcome, and I just didn’t — I saw it as 10 times out of 10, you concede and kneel down in those situations because there was an attainable record that was cool, but the message that I thought it would send wasn’t really in line with how I view things.”

McDaniel did acknowledge the significance of the goal and said it would’ve been cool to break the all-time record, but he didn’t want to do it by unnecessarily running up the score.

Amidst this, some fans on social media speculated that McDaniel took pity on the Broncos since he used to work as a ball boy in Denver during his initial days. Nonetheless, the Dolphins locker still had a lot to celebrate, as many of their players had a historic night individually and as a group.

The Dolphins’ head coach Mike McDaniel had a huge night on Sunday as he led the Miami-based football team to a huge 70-20 victory against the Broncos. “I’m very okay with the decision, and I think the team, notably the leaders of the team supported it, the captains supported it,” McDaniel said. “It’s not the way you want to get the record.”

Furthermore, he also said that if he was on the receiving side of the massacre, he wouldn’t want his opponents to run up the score on his team. Mike said he is trying to keep “good karma” by his side.

Nonetheless, the Dolphins made a statement on Sunday night with a huge offensive showdown. They will look to continue their momentum by registering a victory against their AFC East division rivals Buffalo Bills, who they will be facing in their week 4 matchup on Sunday.
