The Tennessee Titans have already been eliminated from the postseason contention with a poor record of 5 wins and 11 losses in the 2023 NFL season. However, they still have one game left against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Ahead of their week 18 game against their AFC South division rivals, the Titans head coach Mike Vrabel addressed the media and was upset by a reporter’s question.
During the press conference, a reporter questioned Vrabel why he wants to win in their week 18 game on Sunday when there’s nothing to gain from it.
A furious Vrabel said “It sucks to lose” and seemingly moved on to the next question. However, after a brief pause, he looked back at the reporter who asked that question and went on an NSFW rant.
It f------ sucks -- losing. Awful. That's why I want to win [on Sunday]. Because you don't sleep. You want to win for the players that bust their tail, that's it.Vrabel on the press conference
Furthermore, the Titans head coach went on to acknowledge nobody would remember what happens this weekend, but he and his team just want to play four quarters of good football and end the season with a victory.
It's not about, 'We'll go into the offseason with a good note.' Nobody knows what you did on Jan. 7th or 8th or 6th in April when you come back. But, you want to see it just all come together. Just put four quarters together, win a game.Vrabel added
The sixth-year head coach later apologized for the use of foul language in his NSFW rant, but everyone can see why he got agitated by a question like that.
Mike Vrabel does not commit to Will Levis as their future starter
Ahead of the Titans’ week 18 game against the Jaguars, head coach Mike Vrabel said Ryan Tannehill will start only if Will Levis is unable to play due to injuries.
However, when asked about whether their rookie quarterback Will Levis has shown enough promise to continue as their starter in the 2024 season, Vrabel said he is only focused on the Jaguars game currently and is not thinking about the future.
Vrabel said there’s a lot of time left to prepare for the future and remained uncommitted to Levis as their starter. Levis has shown promising flashes in the ongoing season, registering 1,808 passing yards and 8 touchdowns in 8 games. He suffered a foot injury during the Titans’ week 17 game and the severity of his injury is unknown.
