If the Philadelphia Eagles hadn’t had a late-season slump, then perhaps the odds for their win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would have been more than 3 points. Their defensive struggles did not leave them alone when they visited Raymond James Stadium in Florida.

Besides being a very good rushing defense—the tush-push specialists—Nick Sirianni‘s team has faced challenges in their backfield. And during Monday’s game, it was clear as daylight that they could not keep up with the Buccaneers receivers.

While fiddling through social media, one can come across several notable faces who were quick to point out the overwhelming dominance of the Bucs. ESPN analyst Mina Kimes poked fun by comparing the Eagles’ defense with her husband’s unprofessional photography.

The Philadelphia Eagles gave Ray Lewis a headache

Kimes wasn’t the only one unimpressed by how the Philadelphia defenders were unable to use their body strength. When it comes to manhandling opposition players, Ray Lewis comes to mind. The Super Bowl-winning tackler joined the Manningcast to enjoy the game.

During the third quarter, with under 2 minutes on the clock, Tampa had the ball on 2nd and 4. Quarterback Baker Mayfield found wide receiver Trey Palmer and what should have been just a first down turned into a wild goose chase. Palmer outmuscled the Eagels’ corner that tried to stop his run and then took off, carving a path in between three Phillie defenders for a 56-yard touchdown.

Lewis looked disappointed with the poor display from the Eagles’ secondary. The former Ravens linebacker said,

Oh my! oh my! Guys, let me say this. Practicing tackles every day is based on angles. When you see the angles of these guys and the way they approach tackling, it's crazy. Nobody plays together. Put them in a cup. If you put them in a big cup, you are not going to see plays like that. But everybody is playing individual football, and that's insane to me.

Even though the 48-year-old may sound off on the Eagles’ defenders, he was probably supporting the Buccaneers. Lewis is from Florida, so it’s natural he would support the home team, not to mention the red hat he was wearing, but being a former defender and seeing such routine mistakes was enough to tick him off.

The Philadelphia Eagles lost the game 32-9. That was the first time in 42 games (excluding the preseason) they scored less than 10 points. It’s not possible to accuse that on the defense. NFC East rivals the New York Giants were the last team to stop them from scoring 10 back on November 28, 2021 (13-7).
