“Another lost season”: Minnesota Vikings send QB Kirk Cousins back home from practice over an uncertain illness
Kirk Cousins
Minnesota Vikings fans do not usually have a lot to rejoice about, their team is the perfect definition of average. They have a consistently good quarterback in Kirk Cousins, an experienced wideout in Adam Thielen, and a developing Justin Jefferson. It now seems that the only player who consistently delivered will be gone for some time.
The Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins was not keeping well on Thursday morning at practice, it got so bad that Head Coach Kevin O’ Connell had to send him home from the facility. Cousins sat out during the walkthrough and did not return for practice either. The HC told reporters that the team is still in the process of determining the nature of his illness.
Kirk Cousins could have COVID-19
The medical staff of the Vikings has not ruled out the possibility of the QB having COVID. This has led to doubts being cast around the availability of Kirk Cousins as the team will travel to Las Vegas for their preseason opener. “I have not gotten much of an update but I do know he was not feeling well earlier, we have a process in place where we sent him home and we’ll go through our processes internally. I’ll get an update for you guys as the week pans out on his availability for the Raiders game,” HC Kevin O’ Connell stated.
“We’ll really be cognizant of (Kirk Cousins). We’re in the process of kind of trying to go through all that, make sure first and foremost, ‘Hey, what are you feeling, what’s going on?’ And then go through our in-house process to make sure that if it does end up being COVID, we’re on top of it. If it’s not, there’s still some other stuff going around that we want to make sure we’re being smart about the other 90 players, coaches, everything. We’ll deal with it day by day,” O’ Connell concluded.
The Vikings will end up having to rely on backup quarterbacks Kellen Mond and Sean Mannion who will now get the reps during the team’s upcoming practice sessions. Cousins’ status still remains in the air, the team is likely to update the public very soon on the quarterback’s availability. Here’s how NFL fans responded to this news.
Is COVID Kirk MVP-caliber?
Ah, the new virus, doesn’t seem to end, does it?
Vikings fans right now…
Jokes apart, we hope Kirk Cousins makes a speedy recovery and gets back on the field, after all without Kirk, the Vikings’ season is virtually wasted as they are one of the few teams that do not have a solid backup quarterback.
