Looks like there’s good news for the New York Jets as their starting quarterback ought to get back on the field, most likely next month, in December. After a trade deal worth $150 million, made in March 2023, Aaron Rodgers was signed by the Jets.
However, after just four snaps of his debut this season, the 39-year-old quarterback suffered a serious injury of torn Achilles, that kept him out for more than half of this season. As he sustained his injury, it seemed like his season, as well as time with the Jets was over. Contrary to that, throughout his recovery process, Rodgers talked about playing again this season for the Jets.
As time passed by, the odds of that happening seemed negligence. Until recently, when the quarterback stated the possibility for him to return in the middle of next month — December. Soon after that, it was updated that the quarterback is most likely to return on December 24th, week 16 against Washington Commanders.
According to the post shared by Dov Kleiman:
The "most likely" return game that #Jets QB Aaron Rodgers could return to is the Dec 24 game against the #Commanders on Week 16, per @RapSheet
Rodgers also addressed this topic, on his weekly appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” where he claimed he is thinking of returning back on the field in “a few fortnights.” And now as the ‘most likely’ date of his return has been revealed, it seemed like the right decision for the veteran QB.
Injury timeline of Aaron Rodgers
As the 2023 NFL season began on September 7, the Jets’ quarterback suffered a serious injury against the Buffalo Bills, with just four snaps into his debut season for the Jets. On September 11, against the Bills, Rodgers was sacked by the opponent’s edge rusher Leonard Floyd, and couldn’t get back on his feet. He was carted to the locker room, and after some time, it was revealed he had suffered a torn Achilles.
The next day, an MRI confirmed his injury and Zach Wilson had to take his place as the starter of the Jets for the season. On September 13, Rodgers had to go through surgery to repair his injury which indicated he might not be able to return this season.
A couple of days later, on his weekly appearance on the Pat McAfee show, the veteran QB shared he ought to return this season only and not think about targeting the 2024 NFL season.
By the end of September, Rodgers was seen walking on the crutches without his walking boot, showing he was recovering quickly. In mid-October, on the 15th, he was seen sitting on the sideline in the MetLife Stadium for the Jets. He also threw passes before the game. Earlier this month, on November 7th, Rodgers hinted at returning in a few weeks. On November 9th, he clarified his earlier statement of returning in a few weeks to Derwin James, and said, he is targeting to return in “a few fortnights.” This gave his potential return date around Christmas Eve.
A few days earlier on November 13th, it was updated that the Jets’ QB is planning to return around mid-December. And now finally, on November 19th, it has been revealed the most likely date of return of the veteran QB.
