It has been known for quite some while that Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been playing with an injury in his thumb this season. However the extent of the injury was till date unknown but now has been finally revealed.
Aaron Rodgers had been playing with a broken thumb since week 5 of the current NFL season. This injury was sustained by Rodgers after Giants linebacker Oshane Ximines took him down on the final play of the October 9th game in London.
Ever since then Aaron Rodgers has suffered with his thumb but hadn’t revealed that it was broken. Even after the loss against the Tennessee Titans Aaron Rodgers was reluctant to talk about this as he didn’t want it to seem that he was making excuses.
Aaron Rodgers gives details about his broken thumb on the Pat McAfee Show
While making his weekly appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, Aaron Rodgers said that he has dealt with worse injuries in the past. However what is important to note that Aaron Rodgers had played previously with broken fingers but not a thumb.
“It doesn’t make a difference with me playing,” Rodgers said. “It doesn’t make a difference. You saw the tape on my thumb. Didn’t make a difference.”
The Green Bay Packers quarterback had faced a knee injury and suffered a tibial plateau fracture and a sprained MCL in his left knee in 2018 against the Chicago Bears. Even during that season, Aaron Rodgers didn’t miss a game but wasn’t at his 100% during the season.
“When I hurt my knee in ’18, you throw from the ground up, so that was definitely difficult on the footwork, plant leg,” Rodgers said. “When I broke my index finger in college, that was probably a slightly more important finger to deal with. I remember I was at practice and Coach Tedford said, ‘I don’t care what’s hurting, you’ve got one day off and if you miss another day of practice, you’re the backup again.’ So there was no choice.”
