The Cincinnati Bengals-Cleveland Browns rivalry is known as the ‘Battle of Ohio.’ A new chapter in the rivalry will be written today as the Browns host the Bengals for their week 1 matchup. With great players on both teams, it has the potential to become a stellar matchup. WR Ja’Marr Chase called Browns the “Elves,” ahead of the season opener. It did not sit well with Myles Garrett.
“It’s the hooting and hollering about the Cleveland, um, Browns. I was about to call them the ‘Elves’.” Chase told reporters on Thursday. The Cleveland Browns’ DE Myles Garrett addressed the comment and expressed his disappointment. He spoke about it to the reporters on Friday.
Garrett said that Chase did not have to do that and he could have done better. He said “We might have to have a discussion before or after the game, maybe during if I see him. But yeah the elves is a little bit too far.” Garrett might have gotten extra motivation to claim victory in the opening game.
The Bengals have struggled to beat the Browns since the arrival of Joe Burrow. They have a record of 1-5 against them in the last three years. The Browns have a good roster and a new quarterback in Deshaun Watson. A lot of fireworks are expected come game time. Garrett vs. Chase? Bring it on!
What to expect in the week 1 matchup between Myles Garrett’s Browns and the Bengals?
Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns are on the opposite ends of the NFL spectrum. The Bengals are Super Bowl contenders, whereas the Browns are expected to remain a fringe playoff team. Both these teams have stars, and it will be a great game to watch.
The Bengals possess the best WR trio in the entire league in Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Tyler Boyd. QB Joe Burrow recently signed a contract extension that made him the highest-paid player in NFL history, and with him calling the shots under center, the Bengals have an elite offense. Their defense isn’t as good, but they also have some great players on that side of the ball.
The Brown, on the other hand, have a great defense led by the generationally gifted Myles Garrett. They have a great overall roster. The only question surrounding the Browns is regarding Deshaun Watson. He hasn’t played much football for the past couple of years, and this will be his first full season with the Browns. The play of Watson will decide how far this team will go.
The Bengals will be favored to win the game but their recent record against the Browns hasn’t been great. A Browns win won’t be surprising at all. The Browns will host the Bengals at the FirstEnergy Stadium today.
