CJ Stroud was jubilant after he led the Houston Texans to a playoff win over the Cleveland Browns on Saturday. But the celebration turned into a topic of controversy following an alleged tweak from NBC.

Stroud completed the Browns game with 274 passing yards and three touchdowns as the game ended 45-14. The rookie Texan quarterback then had a chat with NBC’s on-field reporter, Kathryn Tappen.

During his speech, he thanked God for blessing him with the win and then praised the city of Texas and the fans who came to NRG Stadium to support the team.

First and foremost, I just want to give all glory to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It’s been amazing being in this city for as short as I’ve been, but the love that I’ve got. I’ve really just been doing it for Houston. People back home, I’m blessed enough to be in this position [and] blessed enough to be playing at a high level right now.
Stroud said in the original video.

However, when NBC shared the video from their official X profile.

First and foremost, I just want to give all glory to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
they completely omitted

Instead, they went with “CJ Stroud has a lot of love for his city” as the headline for the clip.

This wasn’t the only occasion NBC chose to avoid a player showcasing his faith in public space. Last year, Jacksonville Jaguars kicker Riley Patterson held up his cross after dispatching the game-winning field goal against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Although he garnered a lot of praise on social media, the broadcast media overlooked him.

CJ Stroud is very open about his faith

A section of football fans would argue that Stroud dodged a bullet by going as the #2 overall player in the 2023 NFL Draft rather than the top pick.

The Ohio State graduates settled in very quickly in Houston Texans, breaking the record for most passing yards (470) and passing touchdowns (5) by a rookie quarterback in a game and most passes (191) without an interception.

Not only that, he became the youngest rookie quarterback to win a playoff game and pass touchdowns (3).

He missed out on the opportunity to have a Pro Bowl call but was in the mix for MVP for a large part of the season. Whenever asked about his more than successful first year in the NFL, Stroud always starts by praising God.

It’s a lot of prayer. Knowing that God wouldn’t put anything on me that I couldn’t handle. I don’t deserve His grace and His mercy, but He still gives them to me, and I love Him for that.
He told FOX Sports in November last year.

Now his attention is fixated on a battle against the AFC #1 seed, the Baltimore Ravens, in the Division Playoff round at M&T Stadium in Baltimore.

The Ravens were the first team CJ Stroud faced in the NFL. On the opening day of the 2023 season, Stroud completed 24 passes for 242 yards, but the Texans lost 25-9.
