“Just fire him” – Netizens bring back Chargers HC Brandon Staley’s ‘I’m calling the defense’ comment as the team gets destroyed by Raiders 63-21
Staley's Chargers ranks 29th in the league for giving up defensive yards and have conceded more than 35 TDs.

There have been countless cases of people making the trip to Vegas and ending up losing everything; will that be the case for the Los Angeles Chargers, head coach Brandon Staley after their 63-21 demolition at the hands of the Las Vegas Raiders? Thursday night’s result is a reality check for Staley, who is on the hot seat after another disappointing season.
LA’s defense was outclassed by Raiders fifth-round rookie Aidan O’Connell, who dropped 49 points before they put anything on the board. They were missing both quarterback Justin Hebert and veteran receiver Keenan Allen through injuries, but that can’t be the excuse for a leaky defense.
Even though they boast the likes of offensive lineman Khalil Mack, who has 13 sacks this season, he was virtually bypassed by the Raiders offense. They targeted the Chargers backfield, mainly cornerbacks Michael Davis and Asante Samuel Jr.
Davis did manage to complete six tackles (5 solo and 1 assisted) throughout the game, but he was also at fault for allowing two TDs to Vegas. He was unable to cope with Raiders rookie Tre Tucker‘s route play.
Earlier, Staley noted that he still had a grasp on the team’s culture after the Baltimore Ravens loss and claimed that if he had loosened the grip, the Chargers would get blown away. Well, they were because, at halftime, they were down by 42.
To make things a bit more equal, they did score some points in the second half. Rather, both teams added 21 points each as the game finished 63-21.
Social media dug up an old video of Brandon Staley and mocked the Los Angeles Chargers head coach
There were massive expectations from the Chargers when they made Justin Herbert the highest-paid player in the NFL. They had completed the previous season with a 10-7 record and crashed out of the AFC Wild Card round against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Many had thought they would perform even better in 2023, but after 14 weeks, they sit with just 5 wins and 9 defeats.
Brandon Staley assured the Vegas crowd they would turn a new page after the Detroit Lions’ loss on Week 9. When asked why the defense isn’t able to perform at a higher level, the 41-year-old lost his cool and declared he would keep conducting the defensive side of things for the Chargers.
Staley is considered to be a defensive-minded coach. He has spent a long time as a defensive coordinator in multiple franchises over the years, and the Chargers were his first-ever head coaching gig. And after the Raiders’ result, social media dug up dirt on him.
Even after such a horrible result, Brandon Staley has confidence that he will live to fight another day. During the post-match press conference, he said, “
Games like this happen in the NFL. Sometimes games like this happen.
The NFL record says otherwise. According to ESPN, it was only the third time a team has scored 63 points in the Super Bowl era. The last time it happened was back in 1934 when the Philadelphia Eagles dropped 64 against the Cincinnati Reds. This result also reduced the Raiders point differential from -57 to -1.
Whether Staley remains in charge or not, remains to be seen. Before that, the Chargers need to shake off the defeat, which is harder said than done. Fortunately, they don’t play until Christmas Eve, so there’s plenty of time to clear the mind.
