“Their drafts are EMBARRASSING”: Colin Cowherd bashes Bill Belichick and believes he is done
Bill Belichick
The New England Patriots have been on sort of a decline in the last few seasons, ever since Tom Brady left, the team has not been the same. They still have Bill Belichick, the greatest coach ever but they do not have the players to go out there and ball out. Last year was reassuring as they drafted QB Mac Jones who ended up performing well, he was good, not great but he did instill some hope into all Pats fans and saved Belichick’s face as well. The team did not make the postseason either last season but that’s a whole another topic.
Fast forward to this offseason, Stephon Gilmore, the star CB, and probably the team’s best player left the squad in search of greener pastures. The Patriots are officially in a rebuilding phase now. You’d think they would do well in the draft and aim to pick wideouts and defensive backs but no, the team picked a quarterback…

“They feel like they have lost their way”: Colin Cowherd on Bill Belichick and the Patriots
Colin Cowherd reacted to reports suggesting that Bill Belichick will now be moving his defensive coordinator Matt Patricia to the position of offensive coordinator. Patricia has had much success and has drawn up impressive plays in crucial moments. Due to his coaching, the team has had one of the best defenses across the whole NFL. Their offense on the other hand is mediocre at best.
“This will sound crazy but it really is not when you listen to what Robert Kraft has been saying for the last couple of years. He’s DISAPPOINTED. Kraft was always closer to Brady than Belichick, if the Patriots this year came out and missed the playoffs again and were again kind of .500, is it time?” Colin thinks that this season could determine if Bill will remain the coach for the Patriots or if it is time for him to step down.
“He was 0-2 last year against Tua, and the Dolphins are significantly better offensively. He was embarrassed by the Bills in division. He’s got two of his kids now on the staff, a defensive coordinator is becoming the offensive coordinator, and as Belichick is having increasing power, their drafts are EMBARRASSING.” The Patriots chose two quarterbacks in one draft, not wideouts, not defensive backs, and despite having a good quarterback in Mac Jones, Bill Belichick appears to be doing his best to recreate what he did by drafting Tom Brady.
“This year was a mess, I have general managers on the phone that I trust, and they were like, ‘That’s as weird a draft as I have seen.’ You know what they said about Pete Carroll’s drafts four years ago, those were the weirdest drafts I have seen, they all ended up being bad drafts. The Patriots draft poorly and Belichick controls it.” Colin did not hold back as he feels that the coach has gotten reckless and he has too much power in his hands now which is why he is doing as he pleases.
“Family members everywhere, defensive coordinator’s an offensive coordinator, I’m being kind here, they feel like they have lost their way. When you listen to Robert Kraft and what he is saying, you forget how great goes to dysfunctional all over sports.” Colin goes ahead and cites some examples of great coaches who towards the end of their careers took rash decisions that were all no good.
“You also forget how many great football coaches, how it ended poorly, and Don Shula had a winning season and was suddenly gone, Tom Landry got bad fast but Matt Patricia as your offensive coordinator, there has never been higher-end offensive guys in this league, it’s the smartest the league’s ever been on offense, and you’re just going to move a defensive guy in there? Are you watching your offense? It’s coming downhill fast,” Colin concludes.
Belichick is known for making bizarre decisions, some of which have paid off dividends but will his latest bet work out or will it be a big flop? Only time will tell…
