“We will stand by the Judge’s ruling”: NFLPA clears their stance on the upcoming Deshaun Watson verdict

Deshaun Watson

Deshaun Watson was roped in by the Cleveland Browns ahead of the season after they ran out of patience with Baker Mayfield. However, the troubles kept on growing for the Browns as Deshaun’s legal troubles are yet to get resolved.

Deshaun was alleged by several women on charges of molestation and sexual harassment and ever since the claims were made, we have seen a number of twists and turns in the high profile case.

Reportedly, the NFL was first inclined on handing out severe punishment to Deshaun Watson for his involvement in the sexual harassment cases as fans were seemingly angry with the QB’s behavior. As a matter of fact, it was reported by NFL Insider Charles Robinson a little while ago that the NFL has the option to either go with Sue Robinson’s decision on finalizing the punishment for Deshaun or ask for an year-long suspension in case the league isn’t satisfied with Robinson’s call.

When the speculations of NFL asking for a year-long suspension were on the rise, it was reported that in that case, Deshaun and his team, along with the NFLPA will sue the league and just after that, NFL Insider Mark Florio reported that Deshaun might face only a 2-8 game suspension.

As it turns out, NFL has now softened its stance and is ready to scrap the idea of year long suspension. “Interesting that the league was no longer insisting on an indefinite suspension with right to apply for reinstatement after a certain number of games. But the heavy fine was the tradeoff and Watson/NFLPA balked at it,” NFL Insider Dan Graziano informed on Twitter.

The NFLPA has now also made its’s stance absolutely clear about the Deshaun Watson verdict which is about to be announced. “In advance of Judge Robinson’s decision, we wanted to reiterate the facts of the proceeding,” the statement began. “First, we have fully cooperated with every NFL inquiry and provided the NFL with the most comprehensive set of information for any personal conduct policy investigation. A former Federal Judge – appointed jointly by the NFLPA and NFL – held a full and fair hearing, has read thousands of pages of investigative documents and reviewed arguments from both sides impartially.

Every player, owner, business partner and stakeholder deserves to know that our process is legitimate and will not be tarnished based on the whims of the League office. This is why, regardless of her decision, Deshaun and the NFLPA will stand by her ruling and we call on the NFL to do the same.” the statement further read.
