Nick Sirianni’s cocky response to a reporter asking him about his role on the Eagles coaching staff goes viral
Sirianni to stay away from offensive coordinator's responsibility and focus only on being the head coach of the Eagles.

The Philadelphia Eagles are further looking to reduce Nick Sirianni‘s influence on the offense next season. But that doesn’t mean they are getting rid of him as their head coach—a question that seemed implausible before week 11 of 2023 regular season football.
After a blistering start to the season, winning 10 out of 11 games, the Eagles lost five of the last six and missed out on winning both divisional glory and the #1 NFC seed. However, upon deeper reflection, even some of the wins were one-point games that could easily have gone against Sirianni.
Then the ugly 32-9 loss in the wild card against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers did not do them any favors. This was the first time in more than 40 games that they had failed to cross the 10-point boundary. And the Eagles fans let the frustration out on Sirianni by hurling popcorn at him when he was heading for the tunnel post-game.
It wouldn’t have come as a surprise if the Eagles decided to move on from the 42-year-old and looked for a suitable replacement. While Sirianni managed to call the offense the majority of last season despite Brian Johnson’s presence, he will unlikely be doing that in 2024. However, he will remain the head coach for the foreseeable future.
During Wednesday’s press conference in Philadelphia, Sirianni was asked what his role would be going forward. Despite the perplexed look, he had a straight answer:
The head coach of the football team. My job is to be the head coach of the team, not the head coach of the offense, not the head coach of the defense, or the special teams, but the head coach of the football team.Nick Sirianni said

While the defense remains one of the priorities that require a massive fix, the late-season collapse of the offense has put that agenda on hold. At the very least, there’s a familiar name that could take over from Sean Desai/Matt Patricia.
As for the vacant offensive coordinator’s post, they are looking at a few names. According to Sirainni, “This new person coming in is meant to take away the staleness.” And that’s coming from an offensive-minded head coach. A second opinion will be a fresh start for the Eagles, and instead of being his scheme, it will wind up becoming “our scheme,” all though he doesn’t know what it will look like.
Sirianni said during the press conference on Wednesday:
We’re bringing in a guy to bring in new ideas. We’re going through an extensive search to find the right person. But it would be crazy not to add some of the things that we’ve done in the past here. I’m hiring him to do a job and to be in charge of the offense.
Sirianni added
Former Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury and Texans offensive coordinator Jerrod Johnson interviewed for the Eagles OC job. Judging by Sirianni’s statement, there will be a few more names popping up until the start of the offseason. Maybe the return of Frank Reich? He was managing the team during their 2017 Super Bowl-winning run.
