It has been almost six weeks since DeAndre Hopkins became a free agent and is still looking for a home to play next season. Whenever an elite receiver is available, the teams that are looking to push for the Super Bowl will try to sign them. It’s the same for Hopkins, as the New England Patriots have shown interest in his services. However, analyst Nick Wright believes that D-Hop is not keen on moving to New England but to the Kansas City Chiefs.
“The Patriots desperately need him (DeAndre Hopkins),” said Wright in the latest episode of First Things First. He believes that the New England franchise needs an experienced receiver. But Wright has a theory as to why Hopkins hasn’t said yes to the Patriots even after visiting their facility and taking a picture with Matthew Judon.
“I think DeAndre Hopkins does not want the Patriots, but the Chiefs,” claimed Nick Wright, even though there’s no concrete evidence whether Andy Reid and co. want to sign Hopkins. The Chiefs are already stacked in the wide positions with Skyy Moore, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Richie James, and Justyn Ross.
The Patriots, on the other hand, do require Hopkins’ services and can make a move. After sorting out the DeVante Parker contract, they have additional funds to go all out for DeAndre. But Hopkins himself has said he wants to be part of the squad to challenge for the Super Bowl. For now, the Patriots do not look like they are capable, even with coach Bill Belichick. The Chiefs, however, recently won the Super Bowl with MVP Patrick Mahomes as the quarterback.
DeAndre Hopkins has revealed when he will retire
While Nick Wright is fueling his theories, a major development has taken the football world by storm. Hopkins, who is a very outspoken personality, took the new social media addition Threads.
“I’ll retire from football when I’m not a 1k-yard receiver,” said Hopkins earlier today on Threads. He also mentioned, “I was on pace for 1,400 yards last year. only one significant injury in 11 years.” Then the former Cardinals man revealed that “I might be playing till I’m 37, the way I feel.”
Previously, Hopkins posted a message for his future teammates, promising them that he would make their job easy. That may well be the case as an injury-free Hopkins has recorded more than 1100 receiving yards six times in eight years. If he manages to protect himself better, then we might even see him break his 2018 record of 1572 yards while playing for Houston.
Besides the Patriots’ interests, the Tennessee Titans are also one of the favorites to land Hopkins. He visited Nissan Stadium to talk about a potential move. However, they have not made any official approach as of yet.
Moreover, Hopkins’ former teammate Deshaun Watson wanted to link up with him at Cleveland. But the Browns hierarchy chose not to pursue the five-time Pro Bowler.
