The Cincinnati Bengals couldn’t have a worse start than this season. They lost back-to-back games, and Joe Burrow, their star quarterback, is not fully fit. This offseason, he was subjected to a calf injury in the training session. Due to the injury, Burrow was unable to train with the team. He came back against the Bengals season opener vs. the Cleveland Browns, however, performed poorly. The QB was also inactive in the match against the Baltimore Ravens. To make matters worse, he also re-aggravated his calf injury.
Nick Wright, the ‘First Things First’ analyst, spoke explicitly regarding the situation of Joe Burrow. He also had some suggestions for the Cincinnati-based team. He suggested the team bench the QB till the eighth week of the league, which would be a risky decision for the team. Burrow is their prime bet for the Cincinnati Bengals. He is also the highest-paid quarterback in the league as he recently signed a $275 million contract with the team. Benching the highest-paid quarterback will not carry a good sign.
However, Wright has his own logic behind the suggestion. In the recent episode of the show ‘First Things First,’ the analyst said, “The only way the Bengals can win the Super Bowl is if Joe Burrow remains healthy. In the next four, they have a buff. So, If I were running the Bengals, I would say Rams, Titans, Cardinals, Seahawks… You are not playing. You are back on October 29th.”
He continued, “And if we can go to, we can beat the Cardinals… you are worth anything and win one of the other games, be two and fours, and say Joe we are three and four and Super Bowl, can we go on a run?”
It is evident that the analyst is giving priority to Burrow’s health. It is to be seen whether the team management follows his suggestion, which is high possibility.

Joe Burrow’s performance in 2023 so far
The quarterback had a horrible start in 2023. In two games he covered 304 passing yards, two touchdowns, and intercepted once. In the first game against the Browns, the player completed 14 of his 31 passes and covered just 82 yards with zero touchdowns. Statistically, he was better in the game vs. the Ravens, where he completed 27 of his 41 passes, covered 222 yards, and had one touchdown. However, he was intercepted once.
The Bengals are 0-2 down at the beginning of the season. However, this is not something new to the team. They were down by the same numbers last year and still made it to the playoffs by winning the next 12 games from the remaining 14 games. It is to be seen whether they can have a repetition of the same this year.
The team will be going against the Los Angeles Rams in week 3.
