After two unsuccessful seasons at the Denver Broncos, Russell Wilson decided to jump onto the boat of the Pittsburgh Steelers in search of a friendly environment. His two seasons at Broncos were marred with controversies and interception numbers. Wilson had an infamous fallout with his respective coaches and last season, the feud was public. The two parties then soon parted ways.

While the majority of the football fans are happy about Wilson’s change of playing location, not everyone is in favor of this move. Nick Wright, who has been his firm critic from the beginning, questioned the ability of the quarterback.

After the departure of Wilson from the Broncos, Wright, earlier on the show ‘First Things First’ slammed him. He noted that the quarterback was awful and very selfish during his stint at the Broncos.

Now again, Wright has come back to his old form of criticizing Wilson. A few hours back he made a controversial statement that Wilson would not be able to keep his job in the Steelers. In the latest episode of ‘The Herd’ with Colin Cowherd, he stuck to what he said.

This is a great spot for Justin Fields because Russell Wilson is not good anymore. I do not know, why folks still want like there is no one. This is what the Steelers are getting.

Wright made it clear who he prefers as the QB1 for the Steelers in the upcoming season. Describing Pittsburgh as the ideal place for Wilson to flourish, the sports host couldn’t help himself from snubbing the 35-year-old Wilson.

In the second clip of the highlight, you know who missed a tackle on Russell Wilson? Jerod Mayo. Who is the coach of the Patriots. Yes, once upon a time, Russ was dynamic. I want Russ as the week one starter and Fields as week 18.
indicating that Wilson’s age will be a factor, Wright further noted

Wilson’s last season with the Broncos was a mess. Statistically, it was better than the previous one, however; it had the least impact on changing the team’s dynamics. While Wilson threw 26 touchdowns in the 2023 season, the Broncos were limited to only eight wins.

Tussles with managers made Wilson’s life difficult

When Russell Wilson‘s departure was announced from the Denver Broncos, multiple opinions were doing rounds that the veteran QB should join the New York Giants. The logic behind these opinions was simple. The Giants have the likes of Brian Daboll who can make quarterbacks. However, the Giants never made a formal call to the veteran due to the humongous deal of Daniel Jones. As a result, he joined the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In the new team, the quarterback can not afford to make a public feud with his new head coach. Last season, he was benched after his relationship with Sean Payton soured. The latter publicly criticized Wilson for the mistakes and both were not happy with each other.

It is to be seen whether Wilson brings back the glory days of his career with the Steelers or his time becomes more difficult. During this trade, however, one has to tip their hat to Steelers HC Mike Tomlin for pulling a complete 180 in converting his QB room strength. Hopefully for the Steelers fans, Fields and Wilson finally live up to their reputations.
