Russell Wilson has gotten another chance to prove that he’s still got it as a starting quarterback in the NFL. The Pittsburgh Steelers signed him to a one-year deal and will pay him a team-friendly amount of just $1.2 million.

While Steelers fans have welcomed this move as they believe Russ will be an upgrade over Kenny Pickett owing to his experience, one man believes the team’s QB situation remains unchanged before and after signing Wilson.

He's not good anymore. He used to be...what I'm saying is this...Kenny Pickett is not even a fringe starter and Russ at this point in his career is a fringe starter. He will win that competition but the Steelers will not get demonstrably better. They still have the worst quarterback situation in the division.
Nick Wright of First Things First had this to say regarding the Steelers signing Russell Wilson.

The analyst is of the opinion that Russell Wilson is washed. There is no doubt in his mind that while Wilson will win the quarterback battle against Kenny Pickett, ultimately, it makes no difference to the team. Pickett is a younger QB, and in comparison to him, Wilson’s experience will give him an edge.

The Wilson signing does not make the Steelers favorites to win their division or make a deep playoff push. At the most, it could lead to the team winning one or two games more, but nothing more than that.

Wright further went on to state that Wilson’s head coaches have given up on him and have even got some of them fired.

Russell Wilson has had Pete Carroll give up on him, got Nathaniel Hackett fired, and had Sean Payton give up on him.
The analyst stated

Russell Wilson was not offered an ideal extension by the Seattle Seahawks because HC Pete Carroll did not have faith in him in his first year as a Denver Bronco, and due to the team’s disappointing performance, Nathaniel Hackett, the team’s HC, was fired.

Most recently, Sean Payton was one of the bigger reasons why Wilson was let go. He did not have faith in the quarterback any longer. For all these reasons, Nick Wright believes that the Steelers just played themselves by thinking they had gotten an upgrade at the quarterback position when in reality they did not.
