Nick Wright strikes again! In his classic attire, the 39-year-old analyst denied Brock Purdy‘s name for the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award once again. This time, his argument was simple. Purdy is not the most valuable player in his team and hence the discussions of MVP revolving around him are vague.
The 49ers are currently the No.1 seed in the NFC and naturally, Purdy has led the offense to the best of his abilities. Still, many believe that the 49ers’ offense is too strong and any QB would’ve thrived in the situation.
To me, it is very simple. I don't think that he is the most valuable Niner. So I don't know, how he can be the league's most valuable player. I think if the Niners' fans were told going into a playoff game. We are either gonna be without Brock and have Darnold, same Darnold step in, or without Christian McCaffrey, they would say, we will roll with Darnold. I think Shanahan will do the same.Nick Wright on First Things First
This is not the first time Nick Wright undermined Purdy’s importance. This has been happening since the beginning of the season. Both Purdy and Christian McCaffrey started the league on a good run. They were demolishing opponents and those early trends in the league brought them into the MVP discussion. Though Wright accepted the supremacy of the running back, he remained skeptical about the quarterback Purdy. He insisted multiple times that it was not Purdy but McCaffrey who was the driving force behind the success of the San Francisco 49ers.
Just a few weeks back, Wright also hyped Deebo Samuel, the wide receiver for the 49ers. After Purdy ran a demolishing drive against the Philadelphia Eagles, Wright hyped Deebo Samuel for making his journey easy with his playmaking ability. He said that Purdy was successful in registering four touchdowns because Deebo was active. Two of Purdy’s TDs came from Deebo’s play.
The battle for MVP is getting intense between Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey
The MVP battle between Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey is getting intense with each passing game. Both of them have been contributing fairly to their team. McCaffrey was instrumental in the game against the Arizona Cardinals. With more than 100 yards in his tally, he re-emerged as the MVP favorite. After the game, analysts like Colin Cowherd hailed him as the MVP contender over Brock Purdy.
Both McCaffrey and Purdy appreciated each other when it came to discussing the possible MVP frontrunner. They both vouched for each other. However, they both shared that winning the Super Bowl remains the only priority for them, MVP can come later.
With 11 wins, the 49ers are presently the best team in the NFC Division. They are presently looking to seal the No.1 seed in the NFC Championship to get the home ambiance in the playoffs. The 49ers will now face the Ravens in possibly their toughest game of the season this week.
