The Buffalo Bills’ postseason agony continued as they lost yet another playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. This time the game was played in Buffalo and the Bills were favored to win the game. The Chiefs though, have always had their number in the playoffs. This was Kansas City’s third playoff victory over the Bills with Patrick Mahomes as the team’s starting QB.
Mahomes and company were tested to the limit though. Josh Allen had himself a night as he racked up 258 total yards and three touchdowns. Although the Chiefs had the lead late in the game, the Bills had a chance to tie the game with a 44-yard field goal, but Tyler Bass, the Bills’ kicker missed the kick and failed to tie the game. That proved costly as the Chiefs knocked the Bills out of the playoffs.
Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright, who is an avid supporter of the Chiefs, believes that even if Bass had made the field goal, Mahomes and the Chiefs would’ve won the game.
Bills fans DO NOT blame Tyler Bass… deep down you KNOW even if he made it, Mahomes was just going to rip your heart out in even more excruciating fashion.Wright tweeted after the game.
It will go down as one of the biggest what ifs in NFL history as the Bills had the squad this season to go all the way. However, that scenario will have to wait, at least for one more season as the Chiefs prepare to face the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship game next Sunday.
Tyler Bass accepts full responsibility for the Bills’ playoff loss against the Chiefs on Sunday
The Buffalo Bills had a golden chance to rewrite their history against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday in their Divisional Round matchup. However, that did not happen as they failed to win the game and, as a result of that, lost their third playoff game in a row against the Chiefs. They had a chance to tie the game but a failed Tyler Bass field goal marked the end of their season.
Bass, who missed a 44-yard FG to tie the game took full responsibility of the loss after the game.
Ultimately, it's completely on me. Got to do a better job of playing it a little bit more left when you have a left-to-right... I was trusting my line that I had in warmups. Hit a good ball, it didn't work out. I feel terrible. I love this team, and it hurts. This one hurts bad. I've got to do a better job.Bass said in the locker room.
Bass was drafted by the Bills in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He holds the NFL record for the longest field goal by a rookie in playoff history. Bass knocked down a 54 yard field goal against the Indianapolis Colts in the 2020 NFL playoffs.
