Nick Wright has a habit of making controversial statements to piss off football fans. During the latest episode of FOX Sports First Things First, Wright claimed that he has trust issues with Lamar Jackson when it comes to the postseason, and for that reason, he is willing to bank on CJ Stroud for an upset in the AFC Divisional round.

The Baltimore Ravens will face the surprise packages in the AFC, the Houston Texans, in the playoff game at M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday night. It will pit a former Unanimous MVP (Jackson) against a rookie quarterback (Stroud). Yet Wright is confident that the young Texan will beat the seasoned pro.

His reason? The unsatisfactory postseason record of the Ravens quarterback. Lamar Jackson has played four playoff games since entering the NFL in 2018 and has won only on one occasion, back in 2020. The primary reason for missing out on appearing in more games passed by him was injury. Both the 2021 and the 2022 seasons ended prematurely for the 27-year-old after suffering a bad knock.

Wright argued it would weigh on Jackson’s mind and may end up having a negative effect during the game.

Social media made fun of Nick Wright for picking CJ Stroud and the Texans to win over Lamar Jackson and the Ravens

Not only did he believe that Stroud had all the tools to win, but he also hypothesized that if the Texans could score 45 on the supercharged defense of the Cleveland Browns, they could easily break down the Ravens.

The Texans demolished a defense [the Cleveland Browns] that statistically was not just the best this year and was doing some historic things defensively. This is ultimate house money, and I think this type of team that started out that Colts game with a 75-yard touchdown and was throwing bombs all over Cleveland can win.

While the story of CJ Stroud is very inspiring, breaking several rookie records, including the most passing yards in their first playoff game, football fans do not agree with Nick Wright that he can beat Lamar Jackson.

Wright is indeed a massive Patrick Mahomes supporter and has predicted the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback to win his first away playoff win when he faces the Buffalo Bills. If that happens and the Ravens beat the Texans, then the Chiefs will meet them in the championship game. These two sides have only ever met once in the playoffs, in 2011, when the Ravens won 30-7.
