“No remorse, no accountability” NFL advisor Rita Smith thinks “Deshaun Watson is playing us” to get back on the field
Deshaun Watson
Deshaun Watson has been in the news since the start of the NFL 2022 preseason and he still is going very strongly. Recently the Browns QB got an 11-game ban and a $5 million fine but punishments didn’t make Watson hold accountability for his actions and he still maintains his innocence.
Later, Watson issues a statement holding accountability for his actions but didn’t apologize nor did he confess the crime he committed. The NFL has turned a blind eye to Watson’s lack of remorse.
It feels like Deshaun Watson is doing whatever the PR department wants him to do that will quickly get him back on the field. NFL’s senior advisor was furious with Watson’s behaviour and stated “I feel like he’s playing us,” NFL senior adviser Rita Smith told Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “He’s saying exactly what he thinks he needs to say to get on the field again.
“He’s not thinking strategically at all about. ‘Did I cause harm to other people?’ He’s not questioning any of his behaviors at all. He’s absolutely certain from that last statement: ‘I’ve done nothing wrong. This is all about people trying to get at me, and I just want to go play ball.’”
Rita Smith believes that when you don’t have remorse or acceptance for your mistakes you are bound to repeat them and the next time it’ll be worse.
“He’s put around himself people who will carry him forward no matter what decision he makes and that’s dangerous”: Rita Smith on Deshaun Watson
Deshaun Watson is getting influenced by people around him, Watson has the ability to change but he himself will have to make that decision.
There is also the added lawsuit that Ashley Solis didn’t settle. Rita Smith believes that Deshaun Watson hasn’t been served well and his punishment should be more severe. He needs someone to speak hard truths to him and finally, he should embrace the mistakes he has made and look to correct them with his future behaviour.
