Recently, former Northwestern University players have come forward and exposed the program’s culture of enabling racism amid reports of a possible sexual assault. It is reported that many non-white players were subjected to racism and had to adhere to absurd rules and regulations. Ramon Diaz Jr., a Latino former offensive lineman, recently went on record to speak out against the controversy.

Diaz alleged that the players had to conform to white standards and suppress their own identities. It was also reported that all the Black players were asked to cut their long hair and deadlocks. While the white players weren’t subjected to the same rules.

Additionally, failure to comply with HC Pat Fitzgerald or the management could have adverse effects. Many players were even scared that they might lose their scholarships and, in turn, their careers.

The Northwestern University controversy has taken the NFL world by storm. Therefore, immediate action had to be taken to curb the controversy and enable the smooth functioning of the organization.

The management immediately fired HC Pat Fitzgerald, who was allegedly part of the hazing scandal that promoted cultural subjugation. Many former players reported that hazing had been going on for many years and needed to be stopped.

Northwestern University President Michael Schill announced Fitzgerald’s firing with a statement on social media. Schill condemned his actions and held the HC responsible for all the terrible hazing incidents.

“The head coach is ultimately responsible for the culture of his team. The hazing we investigated was widespread and clearly not a secret within the program, providing Coach Fitzgerald with the opportunity to learn what was happening. Either way, the culture in Northwestern Football, while incredible in some ways, was broken in others,” Michael Schill stated.

Pat Fitzgerald brought many trophies and accolades to Northwestern University. However, the management chose equality and cultural unity over trophies and victory.
