Novak Djokovic just made history by winning a record 23rd Grand Slam title by defeating Casper Ruud in the Roland Garros Final on Sunday. Djokovic broke Rafael Nadal‘s record to become the male tennis player with most Grand Slam titles. Plenty of famous athletes were in attendance to witness the Serbian legend in action including the football GOAT Tom Brady, who allegedly had a personal invite from Djokovic himself.
Furthermore, after winning the historic title, Novak Djokovic discussed the effect world-class athletes like Tom Brady have on him. Djokovic claimed that he is grateful for Brady’s support through the years.
“He’s amazing, he’s the essence of sports longevity, I mean he’s playing till he was 40-something years old. An incredible champion, a friend, someone I’m proud to call a friend,” said Djokovic in an interview after the victory. “This was a very unique moment for me, you know, to have such a legend of sports globally and someone that has inspired millions of people to be there to be supporting me to be there from first point to last point, I’m very very grateful and I look up to him.”
Novak Djokovic and Tom Brady are both now undisputable GOATs in their sports. Djokovic has won 23 Grand Slam Titles (most in men’s tennis) and the New England Patriots icon Brady has won 7 Super Bowl rings (most in the NFL). Along with Brady, many other celebrities also attended the final to witness Djokovic make history. The Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappé and the recently retired soccer star Zlatan Ibrahimovic were also in the crowd.
