The CFP selection committee left many college football fans appalled when they released the four selected teams for the playoffs, leaving behind the Florida State Seminoles despite their 13-0 season record. However, the former USC Trojans OJ Simpson once again sided with the committee, asserting “they got it right.”
Simpson who is known for being in favor of committees on such decisions, shared his weekly video addressing his fans, where he talked about the NCAA controversy. He shared that the CFP’s decision didn’t surprise him as it came what he expected, with the caption, “I think they got it right!” on his X (formerly Twitter).
Simpson said:
Well, college made their choices. Pretty much the way I thought. I knew Michigan and Washington would be in. I thought Texas was a cinch to be in. It would have been hard, as great as Georgia’s been over the last few years, it would have been hard to put them in front of Alabama, who just beat ’em.
He shared how someone told him that the SEC is tougher than the ACC, to which he responded with:
I said, ‘Well, normally that’s right. But you do this year the ACC had a 6-4 record against the them? So, you couldn’t argue that. This team went undefeated in that conference. I'm sure the only reason Florida State didn’t get in is that they lost their quarterback.
The 6-4 record that Simpson talked about also included the 21-point win of Florida State over their SEC rival LSU Tigers. In comparison to Alabama, they won against the Tigers by just 14.
Michigan Wolverines stunned by Alabama swap in Rose Bowl semifinals
As the news of the Michigan Wolverines facing off against the Alabama Crimson Tide at the College Football semifinals of the Rose Bowl came out, the team’s reaction worried the fans. It seemed like, the Wolverines were expecting Florida State for which they were well prepared. But the unexpected swap with Alabama left the whole team hushed in the locker room, as reported by Marca.
As the locker room video went viral, Michigan fans were worried, doubting their team’s ability against Alabama. The Crimson Tide secured the playoff spot after claiming victory over the unbeaten Georgia at the SEC championship. The team holds the record for having the most number of appearances of 7, wins of 9 and championships 3 in the history of college football playoffs.
FSU recently had to bench their star quarterback Hunter Travis due to his serious injury which cost them the playoff spot. Therefore, it seemed obvious that the Wolverines expected to face a short-handed team like Florida State, rather than the playoff test Crimson Tide.
