O.J. Simpson had an illustrious career in the NFL and was certainly regarded as the best of his time. Simpson was one of the brightest stars of the NFL before the infamous controversy struck him. Therefore, it’s safe to assume that the former RB can give a decent answer to the greatest athlete of all time question.

Recently, the former Buffalo Bills RB took to Twitter to announce the greatest athlete of all time. To football lovers’ surprise, he denied Tom Brady that prestige and believes ‘he’s certainly not’ the greatest of all time. However, he gave him the crown of the greatest QB.

“In my case, from my opinion, I think running and jumping really defines an athlete. I wouldn’t call Tom Brady the greatest of all time despite seven Super Bowls. Greatest quarterback of all time maybe, certainly not the greatest athlete. To me, the greatest athlete that I saw was Carl Lewis,” O.J. Simpson said via Twitter.

Still, Simpson has a different perspective on the GOAT debate and believes the mantle should be awarded to Carl Lewis. Carl Lewis was a track and field runner who won numerous Olympic golds during his tenure.

Lewis was a prominent athlete during the 80s and won 9 gold medals in four Olympic outings. He dominated the 100 and 200-meter events while also excelling in the long jump. While O.J. Simpson recognized Lewis’ greatness, he himself was a stellar player during the 70s and completely dominated the NFL.

The Buffalo Bills drafted O.J. Simpson in 1969 and soon understood they had a star on their roster. The eccentric RB took the league by storm and even won the MVP award.

He was the first player to eclipse the 2000-yard mark and wrote his name in history. Simpson was also voted to five consecutive Pro Bowls and First Team All-Pro from 1972-1976.

However, his career took a turn for the worse when he was alleged to kill his former wife Nicole Brown, and her friend Ron Goldman. The complete lawsuit was televised on national television and soon O.J. Simpson became prominent for all the wrong reasons. He was later acquitted after the trial and spent several years in prison.
