The football season starts with a bang for the Detroit Lions after their opening-day victory against the Kansas City Chiefs. It was a prime-time upset that could shake up the NFL in the long run.
It came down to the wire on Thursday, as the Kansas City Chiefs looked out of it most of the game. Several analysts had predicted that Patrick Mahomes would be able to keep his 100% opening-day win record (5-0) intact. However, that ended as last year’s Super Bowl MVP threw an embarrassing pick-6. Detroit held its ground well and pounced on the losing balls when it mattered.
But as fans and statistics would point out, there was only one man who had a day to forget. Wide receiver Kadarius Toney dropped as many as four passes. Truth be told, Mahomes’ pick-6 that let Brian Branch return 50 yards for a touchdown was also the fault of the 24-year-old.
The absence of a tight end, Travis Kelce, was apparent. He was present on the sidelines, but that can only go so far as to motivate players. His replacement, Blake Bell, played well and even scored a touchdown in the first quarter.
In the end, an unsatisfactory performance by the Chiefs against a resilient Lions side was capped off with a loss for the Kansas franchise. This 20-21 loss was not taken lightly by the fans, as they are used to seeing Patrick Mahomes perform well. By his high standards, the Pro Bowler finished the game with just 226 yards passing, two touchdowns, and one interception. He completed 21 of his 39 pass attempts.
Chiefs fans not happy with their loss against the Detroit Lions on opening day

After the match ended in Detroit’s favor, fans took to Twitter. They wrote that Mahomes can’t win without Travis Kelce. Moreover, they were unhappy with the performance of Kadarius Toney.
After the match ended, Lions head coach Dan Campbell claimed that he knew the Lions would win. “I didn’t learn anything. I got verification on what I already knew,” he told the press on Thursday.
For the Kansas City Chiefs, however, it will be a tough pill to swallow as they want to clinch the Super Bowl once more. Up next, they will play the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 17. The Lions will face the Seattle Seahawks on the same day.
