Earlier this year, the Philadelphia Eagles lost to Orlando Brown Jr.’s Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. The game ended in favor of the Chiefs, as they bagged their third Vince Lombardi Trophy. After the game concluded, fans and observers alike started blaming the poor groundwork for the Eagles’ loss, as they did not even register one single sack the entire game. Even players from the Phillies franchise chipped in with their opinions, including DB C.J. Gardner-Johnson.

On Monday, C.J. Gardner-Johnson tweeted, “Run that bowl back on legit grass; the Dline smashed that Oline. I’m sorry.” The 25-year-old wanted a replay of the game where they wouldn’t fall down every second due to the slippery grass.

Orlando Brown has hit back at the rising criticism of their groundsmen. He made a stern reply to Garnder-Johnson’s tweet earlier today. “We talking about grass on the biggest stage,” Brown reminded Johnson, “Y’all rush plan was to win games when rushing 4 with a mix of man and zone, thinking that shit was getting home.”

Then the Chiefs OT said, “On top of that, y’all rushed 5 with COV 1 and a splash of 3.” Brown wasn’t finished, as he claimed the ground helped the Eagles more than it did them. “Let’s not act like the field helped me stop a bull rush,” said Brown, “If anything, it helped y’all!”

C.J. Gardner-Johnson became the latest in a long line of players to complain about the pitch being slippery. Earlier, Eagles’ Pro Bowl defensive lineman Brandon Graham raised the same issue. In a recent interview on Sports Take with Derrick Gun and Rob Ellis, Graham claimed that they were slipping a lot due to less traction. He said,” I don’t make excuses, but, “that O-line (the Chiefs), they got blessed; I’ll say that.”

Amidst all the banter from both camps, the league put out a statement accusing the Eagles players of their slips. According to Pro Football Talk‘s Mike Florio, the League “blames the players for not wearing the right shoes” against the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. If you go back and watch some of the clips from the match, you will realize how poor the pitch condition was.

Even though players from both sides were tumbling down left and right, the Eagles just could not stick their feet on the ground and failed to stop the pass rush. Moreover, blaming the Eagles players is unjust because they changed their cleats midway through the game, but the result was the same as before.

Furthermore, this was not an isolated incident. Previously, when playing against the Arizona Cardinals, Chiefs kicker, Harrison Butker, slipped on a kickoff and sprained his ankle. In December last year, during the Fiesta Bowl Semifinal between Michigan and TCU, players faced the same problem.

Whether Orlando Brown Jr. or C.J. Gardner-Johnson are aware of all the facts or not, the game was played with high intensity, both sides gave their all, and in the end, the Chiefs won 38-35.
