“Our confidence in Kyler Murray is as high as it’s ever been” Cardinals exclaim after eliminating the mandatory independent study clause
Kyler Murray
These past days have been captivating and controversial for the Arizona Cardinals and QB Kyler Murray after he signed a new $230 million contract which stated the clause of watching films for self-study without any distractions. This clause gained a lot of steam in the media and soon it was a nationwide issue.
It also didn’t help when Murray came in front of the media to explain his dedication to the game and the fact that he does not needs to be babysat. Kyler Murray on work ethic ” I’ve put an incomprehensible amount of time in what I do”. Kyler believes that he has the work ethic and discipline and that’s the reason he’s playing at such a top level.

“After seeing the distraction it created, we removed the addendum from the contract,” the Cardinals said Thursday in a statement”.
The Cardinals were quick to judge the controversy and take action to minimize it. “It was perceived in ways that were never intended. Our confidence in Kyler Murray is as high as it’s ever been and nothing demonstrates our belief in his ability to lead this team more than the commitment reflected in this contract.” obtained by NFL network’s Mike Garafolo and Rapoport.
Kyler had an impressive last season which led to his $230 million contract. The clause was added in the contract due to Murray’s inaction towards watching game films for independent study. He had to watch 4 hours of game films every week without any distractions (eg TV, social media). If he fails to do so it would result in Murray losing over $100 million.
Cardinal’s owner Michael Bidwell thought that the clause was a worthy addition to the contract, with Rapoport further adding ” the team wanted some assurances that Murray is going to continue to work, continue to perform at the level that is necessary, and the kind of level that deserves that contract.”
The Cardinals believe that the addendum was perceived differently than it was intended and this created a lot of controversies that weren’t expected.
