Keisean Nixon may be a two-time All-Pro cornerback, but he can also return a punt as well as defend players. He showed the football world a glimpse of what he was capable of during the NFC Divisional playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers.

As the Niners led 14-13 midway through the third quarter, Jake Moody kicked the ball downfield. But one of the worst kickers of the 2023 season saw his kick backfire as it landed straight in the graceful arms of Nixon, who caught the ball centimeters before the endzone.

Following the catch, the 27-year-old took off to gain some ground for the Packers. He passed a horde of players on the edge of the midfield and entered 49ers territory until linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles brought him down near the 20-yard mark.

But the play did not end there. Upon impact with the ground, the ball came out of Nixon’s grasp. Fortunately for the Packers, Eric Wilson was able to pounce on it before any red shirt could pick it up.

Keisean Nixon has a habit of making flashy returns

This was no isolated try for Nixon. Oh no. Down in Boston, they have been celebrating similar mazy runs since they traded him from Oakland in 2022. One example, or rather the best example, of how good he can be was a first-quarter return against the rival Minnesota Vikings that season.

Following Vikings kicker Greg Joseph‘s kick, Nixon grabbed the pass and ran the length of the field to score a touchdown straight from the kickoff. He covered 105 yards to edge his name in history books.

Before that, he had a 93-yarder against the Miami Dolphins. In two seasons with the Packers, he has amassed 1791 returning yards.

Then Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers praised the dual-threat player. Rodgers said,

Things you don’t count on: Keisean Nixon. I knew he was talented, but maybe didn’t see game-breaker.

Head coach Matt LaFleur told Forbes,

Any time that you have a returner that’s capable of taking it to the house, that energizes the guys blocking for him. We have a legitimate threat anytime somebody has to kick off at us.

A player like Nixon is a massive asset to any team. In an age where special teams play a pivotal role, he is someone whom the Green Bay Packers can rely upon when required.
