In a sudden turn of events, the Green Bay Packers released Aaron Jones right after the team signed running back Josh Jacobs. The general manager of the team, Brian Gutekunst announced the news of the departure of the former RB.
In an official statement shared on the team’s website, Gutenkunst thanked Jones for his time with the Packers. He claimed it was one of the hardest decisions to make for him.
We want to thank Aaron for his unwavering commitment to the Packers and the community over the past seven seasons. It is certainly one of the hardest decisions we've had to make in my time with the Packers and not one taken lightly. He has not only had a significant impact on the field and in the locker room, but he is one of the most beloved players in the community. We wish nothing but the best for Aaron and his entire family moving forward.Brian Gutenkunst said via a statement
It was a shocking move by the Packers since Jones had some remarkable campaigns with the team. The RB was drafted by the Packers in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. In his seven years, the RB established himself as a true No. 1 option for the team.
In seven years of his career, the RB totaled 5,940 yards of rushing with 45 rushing touchdowns in 97 games he played. In 2023, his production saw a dip due to some injury issues.
Nonetheless, in addition to his rushing stats, the RB also shares good receiving numbers. The RB registered 2,076 receiving yards with 15 receiving touchdowns. He established a legacy in the team and became a fan favorite in his seven years.
