‘It’s really happening’ Packers grants trade permission talks to Aaron Rodgers with the Jets, 18-season long legendary association set to break

Looks like the Aaron Rodgers era in Green Bay is about to come to an end after 18 years!
The Packers gave Rodgers green light to speak with the New York Jets as reported by NFL Insider Ian Rapoport. A small pack of Jets’ management has also flown to Green Bay to have a detailed conversation with the veteran quarterback, reported by another NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero. This decision seemed to have come after Packers GM Brian Gutekunst said during the NFL Combine in Indianapolis that the team was ready to have Jordan Love as their starter.
The Jets already have a star quarterback in Zach Wilson, or so they thought as they selected him second overall in the 2021 NFL draft. His performance in the first two years hasn’t been indicative of his ability to lead a franchise and he was demoted to third-string after the 2022 season’s Week 16’s loss to the Jaguars. That’s the reason why the Packers are aggressively trying to acquire Aaron Rodgers.

Aaron Rodgers will have a discussion with the Jets in the coming days
Aaron Rodgers just come off his fifth losing season with an 8-9 record. He wasn’t his best, unlike the previous two seasons where he won back-to-back MVPs, but you still can’t count Rodgers out. However, the Jets should do proper due diligence before they go all-in with him because the veteran quarterback played with a broken thumb for most of the 2022 season.
In the Week 5 game against the Giants in London, Aaron Rodgers broke his thumb and that too of his throwing arm, which made it troublesome for him to play like his usual self for the entirety of the season. The Jets are placing all their bets on that thumb because acquiring Rodgers from the Packers will cost them an insane amount of money and first-round picks as well.
Even with a broken thumb, the 4x NFL MVP is better than half of the league. He is among the best quarterbacks that have ever thrown the ball in the history of the sport. And the Jets better pray to God that Rodgers recovers from that injured thumb and returns to his MVP self, otherwise this trade will go down as one of the most unfortunate and bust deals in the league.
As soon as news broke out about the Packers giving Rodgers permission to talk with the New York, the Jets players were extremely elated and instantly started recruiting him on Twitter. Defensive Rookie of the Year Sauce Gardner tweeted, “Aye @AaronRodgers12 I promise if you become a Jet, I won’t pick you off in practice & I’ll burn the cheesehead.”
Ultimately, the decision lies with Aaron Rodgers to either play with the Jets or stay back in Green Bay. He can also decide to retire altogether. Let’s see how the trade talks unfold and what Rodgers decides. Maybe he goes to the Jets to have a better final chapter for his career and cap his legacy with a Super Bowl!
