Last Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs, led by their star quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, defeated the Baltimore Ravens in their AFC championship game. Ahead of the game, the Chiefs QB Mahomes and the Ravens Kicker Justin Tucker had a heated incident while warming up. And now, just days after the game, Mahomes called out Tucker for disrupting his routine.
During his Tuesday appearance on 610 Sports Radio in Kansas City, Mahomes claimed that Tucker has disrupted his routine many times even before the AFC game.
I've had seven years of doing that same warmup routine and there's only been like three occasions where there's been a kicker that wasn't ... moving out of the way. It was in Baltimore all three times.Patrick Mahomes said
Furthermore, Mahomes said that he had asked Tucker to move his equipment out of the way before his teammate Travis Kelce took matters into his own hands and threw away the kicker’s gear.
He does that to get under our skin. I asked him to move his stuff and he got up and moved it I think two inches but didn't move it out of the way. I was going to let it slide but Travis moved it for me and after that I wasn't going to let him put it back down.Patrick Mahomes said
Ahead of the AFC game, Justin Tucker lined up his equipment where Mahomes had to practice his throws. In a video that went viral on that day, Travis Kelce could be seen cleaning out Tucker’s gear and throwing it out of the way so that Mahomes can practice. That day, Kelce and Mahomes caught a lot of heat for their actions.
And now, the 2-time All-Pro quarterback opened up about what led to Kelce ‘bullying’ Tucker ahead of the important road playoff game.
Justin Tucker opens up about the Patrick Mahomes incident
A day after the heated incident between Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Justin Tucker, the Ravens kicker shared his side of the story with the reporters.
I just thought it was all some gamesmanship, all in good fun. But it seemed to be taken a little more seriously. I'm totally willing to let it all go.Justin Tucker said via ESPN
Tucker also said he never had a problem like that in his 12-year-long career. The Ravens kicker didn’t think the heated incident was a big deal and described Kelce and Mahomes as two of the best players in the league.
Nonetheless, Mahomes and the Chiefs will now be focused on defeating the San Francisco 49ers in their Super Bowl game, which is scheduled to take place on February 11, 2024.
