It’s that time of the year. The time when a lot of dreams will be realized, and a lot of dreams will be shattered. The NFL roster cut deadline is August 29. Every team will have a final 53-man roster after August 29. Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs finds it hard to see his teammates get cut from the team.
Mahomes is not a fan of this particular process. In an interview with Pro Football Talk, Mahomes said it is hard to watch his teammates get cut. “It’s hard, I don’t like to follow it too closely,” Mahomes said. “I’m rooting for everybody. It’s hard to sit there and you don’t want to promote for one guy to make it over another guy because this is people’s livelihoods, this is people’s lives. I don’t follow that too closely. It’s hard for me.”
The teams have 90 players on the roster right now and need to get to the 53 roster mark by Tuesday. More than 1,000 players will get cut by the deadline, making it difficult for Mahomes to think about it.
Patrick Mahomes and starters are expected to play some snaps in the Chiefs’ final preseason game. They will play the Cleveland Browns in their final preseason game today. They officially start their Super Bowl title defense against the Detroit Lions in the first game of the season on September 7.
Can Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs defend their Super Bowl title?
The Kansas City Chiefs are the NFL’s new dynasty. They have a great coach in Andy Reid, arguably the best quarterback in the NFL in Patrick Mahomes, and a tremendous overall roster. They have been to three Super Bowls in the last four years, winning two of them. They are the first team in the league’s history to host five consecutive AFC Championship games.
Naturally, the expectations in Kansas City and across the NFL world are for them to repeat as Super Bowl champions. Since last year’s title run, the Chiefs have lost some key players. Wide receivers Juju Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman Jr. are both gone. It is always hard to repeat as champions.
The Chiefs have all the required bases covered to make another Super Bowl push. They have an elite QB in his prime. They have one of the greatest TEs to ever play the game and a Hall of Fame-bound head coach. All signs point towards another deep playoff run. Now it’s up to Mahomes and the company to deliver on that.
