Patrick Mahomes open-heartedly credits Chiefs HC Andy Reid for all his success as a quarterback while terming him as one of the ‘best coaches of all time’
Kansas City Chiefs' QB Patrick Mahomes believes he would be a much different QB if he did not have Andy Reid as his HC.

If there is one thing that sports has made fans realize, it is that the phrase “a match made in Heaven” is not just limited to romantic relationships. It is applicable in sports as well as some duos in the history of sports were just made to play together, such as Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, and Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin.
In recent history, another duo can be added to this list, it is a duo comprised of a head coach and a quarterback, it is none other than Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes who have changed the face of the Kansas City Chiefs franchise. Drafted in 2017, Mahomes was already one of the top prospects heading into the draft. What he had done at Texas Tech had already wooed scouts and fans alike.

He could not have been put in a better situation, as Andy Reid is known to be an offensive genius and the QB is grateful to this day to his HC. In an interview on the AP Pro Football Podcast with Rob Maaddi, he had nothing but good things to say regarding coach Reid. “He’s meant the world to me. He’s just the best coach, obviously, one of the best coaches of all time, but he’s just one of the best people of all time. He’s learned how to get the most out of me every day. He doesn’t let me be satisfied with where I’m at. He teaches me a ton,” Mahomes stated.
Patrick Mahomes credits Andy Reid for shaping him into not just a great QB but also a leader

Pat Mahomes goes on to add that HC Reid has played a pivotal role in developing him into a well-rounded athlete ever since he was drafted, “Not only the quarterback position, but how to be a leader and how to be a great dad and how to be a great husband. He lets me be who I am every single day. I think if I’d have went to some other places, I would’ve had to learn how to play the quarterback position a different way, and he just lets me play the quarterback position the way that I want to play it. I think that’s what’s made me such a different type of quarterback in this league.”
There’s a lot of sense in what the star quarterback said. Imagine if he was the first QB to go in the 2017 draft over Mitchell Trubisky, things would be much different today as Mahomes in the Chicago Bears’ locker room would probably not be able to achieve as much as he has on the Chiefs. HC Reid prepared his QB and put him in action just in time for him to shine.
Andy Reid has also greatly benefitted from having Patrick Mahomes as his floor general. Before the Mahomes era began, Reid was known to be a great coach but not a Super Bowl winner. He now has 2 victories and is considered to be one of the best coaches of all time. This season, Mahomes and Reid will look to repeat their Super Bowl run and his mentality has become eerily similar to that of Tom Brady.
“I think everybody thinks about legacy and how they’re remembered, but I think you have to think about that and at the same time evaluate every day how you can become better. How you can really maximize every single day, and then whenever your career’s done, you have no regrets. And I think that’s what I’ve always preached is it’s not about success of that day. It’s about having no regrets at the end of your career. I think that if you work hard every single day and put everything you have into the game, then when you look back at the end of your career, however many trophies you have or however many Super Bowl rings you have, you’ll have no regrets,” Mahomes concluded.
It is scary to think that Patrick Mahomes has a lot more years to go before he can even be considered to have crossed his prime. The quarterback has so much potential that one cannot deny the possibility of him standing a chance to beat Tom Brady’s seven Super Bowl records.
