Patrick Mahomes is entering his sixth season in the NFL as a starter for the Kansas City Chiefs. He has already won two MVPs and two Super Bowls in his 5 seasons with the Chiefs. Arguably the best player in the league, Mahomes and the Chiefs enter the 2023 season as firm favorites to defend the Super Bowl title.
He now has his eyes set on Tom Brady and his 7 Super Bowl rings. Talking to Peter King for his Football Morning in America column for NBC Sports, Mahomes said, “Seven’s a lot, but I’ll strive to get as close as I can. To win seven Super Bowls and be in 10 Super Bowls, it’s crazy to even think about, even for me today. The other stats kinda come with it. I knew at Texas Tech, I put up a lot of stats but didn’t win games. When I got to the NFL, I knew I wanted to be a winner [first]. Try to win Super Bowls and give my team the best that I can.”
Mahomes and Brady played each other in Super Bowl LV where Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers came out on top 31-9. They also played each other in the AFC Championship game in 2018 where again Brady’s Patriots edged out Mahomes’ Chiefs in an epic overtime battle. Brady eventually went on to win the Super Bowl that year.
Mahomes, 27, has a stacked team in Kansas City and they will hope to get to another Super Bowl this year. He is just entering his prime and with a future Hall of Fame coach in Andy Reid and a good receiving group led by All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce, another ring this year will not be a surprising outcome. They start their season against the Detroit Lions on September 8 at Arrowhead Stadium.

Patrick Mahomes celebrates wildly after watching backup quarterback Shane Buechele’s impressive play

Patrick Mahomes is regarded as one of the most talented quarterbacks in the history of the game. His creating something out of nothing ability is truly a sight to behold. Entering in his sixth season, the reigning league MVP will look to continue his elite quarterback play and lead his team to another shot at the Super Bowl.
However, it was his backup quarterback Shane Buechele’s impressive play that had him celebrating wildly on the sidelines during the Chiefs’ first preseason game. In Chiefs’ 26-24 loss to the New Orleans Saints, Shane Buechele had a Mahomes-esque moment as he scrambled out of the pocket and threw a touchdown pass to receiver Kekoa Crawford.
Mahomes was overjoyed after watching his teammate’s spectacular play. Buechele will likely play in the remaining preseason games and will hope to show more of his impressive play. The Chiefs will host the Detroit Lions in week 1 to start the season.
